I just finished reading an article about the Tropicana and the Hemingway home, and I am dying to go to Cuba. The minute the embargo gets lifted, which I assume it will, when Fidel dies, I want to go there. Before the goddamn corporations start building hotels on the best beaches. Anyone been there, already?

I have and it is a lovely place, a little disheartening in some areas. You can go now if you go through Mexico or South America.
I guess if you could find a reason to go for academic or business purposes you could go.

I know I could go, but I would feel more comfortable if it wasn't problematic, and was completely above board. Fidel can't last forever.

He hasn't died yet!

My understanding is that his brother is running the place. He just changed the laws to allow the locals to sell property and own more (it was restricted before). An article i read friday said that home building is only done by the govt and that doesnt change. I have no idea about real estate laws there and if non-Cubans or corporations can own anything...
I think some people fly to canada and then to cuba to get around the ban.
