ORIGINAL: Duskypearls Wounded healers often make the best healers. They benefit from having had first-hand experience in the issue, and as a result, hopefully will bring more compassion/insights into the solution. That's what I keep telling myself, maybe it will sink in before I actually get out there in the field.[8D] Yep I am a psych who has been working in the field for a long time. I have had severe endogenous depression before so have always felt a strong sense of empathy with clients however whilst I agree that having experienced some of these things ourselves can make us more compassionate and better practitioners, we have to ensure that we have very firm boundaries that we constantly check. A risk is that we open ourselves up to be either triggered in our work or to keep a client when really it would be better to pass them on to someone else or that we let our past colour our therapy sessions and guidance offered. I am not working at the moment as I know that I am too mired in my stuff but am sure that this will be yet another experience that will help me in my career and also in assisting me to continue to learn about myself.[:)]
