Can someone please tell me ...

what is the longest period of time that you should be kept in saran wrap (or similiar) for ?

What are the consequences of staying in it for too long ?

thanks

Well its been a long time since anything like that was done to me..from what I recall..overheating and circulation can become issues...so depending on how you are coping with those issues would amount to the time spent. Also if you have never had it done to you before...I hope you arent claustrophobic lol

littlesubjess -> RE: Saran Wrap (5/26/2006 4:22:53 PM)

thanks for your feedback, Jali

i have had it done loads of times before, and i love it - claustraphobic is the one thing im not lol.

but .. i want to experiment with longer periods of time, tighter, more layers, and just generally, more restrictive and secure ,.... i just dont wanna get in a mess lol, and wanted some advice

There are a few basic things you may already know:
Keep your air way clear and unobstructed. (Be aware of tightness throat wraps and position of head and neck.)
Be certain you can expand your throat and chest sufficiently for air intake.
Assure proper circulation to limbs, fingers and toes.
Check pressure points (joints, bony prominences etc.) too much pressure over bone can press nerves or tendons against bones. This can cause ‘bad’ pain sooner rather than later. This can also cause damage rather quickly.
Dehydration could be an issue if the heat build up is sufficient. (Normal hydration requires 35 cc of water per kg of body weight. 1 kg= 2.2 lbs.)
Skin needs to be adequately moisturized prior to and following ‘plastic wrap
Start with an empty bladder (unless this is part of the scene) and be prepared to have bladder capacity decide how long the scene will last. (Fluid  restrictions just prior to the scene can be useful in extending the scene as long as the basic hydration is adequate.)
Position is important if the heat or other factors caused fainting.  Be sure you won’t fall if…. EMT sheers and the Dominant within ‘lunge’ distance mitigate those risks.
Be prepared for hours and hours and hours of plastic wrapped fun! Best wishes. LdyS

If you do it right, you can spend the night like that, although be prepared to be pretty stinky with sweat when you come out!  LOL.

But safety is an issue here.   When wrapping, place a small towel or something padded between the knees.  Those bony parts will grind together after a while and cause bruising, not to mention the pain.  Any place bone presses against bone you should consider a little padding, no matter what the bondage.
Also, if you are after extended mummification, dont wrap the head.  Let it breath.  Most of your body heat is expelled through your head anyway, so if you leave your head alone the rest of your body is much better able to handle the heat of being wrapped.
Keep the room reletively cool, and provide a nice soft place to lie down on, and you should be good!

Seems you've gotten plenty of good advice, esp from LadyS & Nightguy.  LadyS mentioned it in passing ... but I'd like to emphasize that you make sure your Dom/me has you inhale deeply & hold your breath while your chest is being wrapped ... that should give you plenty of room for chest expansion for later.  They've nicely covered the topic of protecting bony prominences ... but that also includes putting you on a surface where they won't become a problem ... id est, make sure you aren't left wrapped on a cement, tile or wooden floor.  If any body part gets numb or cold or significantly painful ... you need to get out of the wrap ASAP.  If you start to get nauseous or light-headed/faint ... those would be other indications to get out.

Overheating is the biggest potential problem (esp w/ a full wrap), so you should never be left alone while mummified.  I recommend a good 'hook knife' or 'shroud line cutter' for faster extraction than shears.

Make sure you keep some methods of communication open ... do NOT use a gag while mummified ... unless you have other unmistakeable means of communication.

Also be sure your Dom/me knows of any medical conditions, allergies, seizure disorder, diabetes, etc that you might have.  And if you stop wriggling, they need to keep checking on you.

As to claustrophobia ... you might not know you have it til your head gets covered ... but you still might tolerate it if your head isn't covered.

And, it seems common sense to me, but I'd better also mention that you should not be mummified if you have been drinking (alcohol) or doing any drugs ... they alter judgment AND change your metabolic rate & can cause overheating much faster.

Have plenty of fluids available for when you get out.  Have fun & play safely,

i would say that nearly all points seem to be covered above, thought i would just add that obviously the thicker the wrap is and the longer the time you are wrapped, the bigger the shock your body will experience coming out of the wrap....so make sure those warm blankets r kept close nearby and that there is lots of fluid for after the scene, and of course keep lots of time to recovered afterwards

if you've been wrapped b4 u probably already know these things...so this note is more for someone who hasnt tried being wrapped and may be reading the post

timeoutgurlie -> RE: Saran Wrap (6/12/2006 9:15:30 PM)

Aparently metallic body paint (maybe all, I only know of metallics from my own personal question in the past regarding painting my entire body with it) is harmful because you can't sweat, and then you run the risk of overheating/high temperature.  My guess is being wrapped in plastic would do the same if the only parts uncovered were mouth and nose holes.  If you were going to do this, I think you'd be safe with both your head & feet left unwrapped.  That was the advice given to me regarding the paint; as long as my head/face & feet were left unpainted, my body tempt could regulate itself within a safe range.

Hope that helps [:)]

lol....just out of curiousity, did you ever see the mythbusters program (i dont know if you know it, program where they test out popular urban myths to see if they r possible or crazy).....they have twice tested the myth about how someone could die from being covered, head to toe in gold body paint (made popular because of the lady in goldfinger). As far as they could tell after the second try there was barely any change over a short time in the person's health.

That said i dont think i would want to try, or recommend, being in full body paint for that long...

Oh, and would also add that (having been wrapped again recently for about an hr and a half, not really too long, but yummy, lol) that i didnt feel really tired or dehydrated until after i was unwrapped , and then it all hit me....just something to be careful of i guess...

Brent Spiner, who played Data on Star Trek: The Next Generation, wore gold body paint for years.

Another top to make mummification scenes last a bit longer and to have some fun.

Get a glass/bucket of cold water and a syringe.  Make small holes in interesting places through the wrap, shoot small bits of cold water inside.  This will help cool down the body and it's torture too!  Don't make the water TOO cold, especially if the sub is very warm, you don't want them to experience shock....just cold for a moment ;)

<wide evil grin>  Love that cold water idea.
