So I'm in an epic struggle with myself on whether or not to buy the Wish You Were Here Immersion boxset. For those not familiar, it's got several different versions of Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here album, along with all kinds of various trinkets and doo dads.

I know there's a good amount of fellow Floyd fans here, so I figured I'd see if anyone else has purchased one of these boxsets, and their impressions of it?

Have they released the one for Animals yet? I might spread the word on Christmas hints, for that.

As far as I know, they're only doing these boxsets for Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, and Wish You Were Here. They're a little over a hundred apiece, so I highly doubt we'll ever see their prior albums or their later ones released in similar fashion.

Nope, the underrated Animals album remains under the radar.

I didn't buy it myself but I know a chap who did, and I think Willbur has or will be getting it. Its around 115 Euros where I am so it isn't cheap. My own impression is that the first two discs are pretty good but they can be bought in the Experience edition for a fraction of the price so it comes down to the importance of the the DVDs, the blu-ray disc and the trinkets. The proper 24 bit HD audio on the DVDs is worthwhile if you have a good quality DVD player but some of the multi-channel mixes feature on very low resolutions of 480 - 640 kbps or so. Then there is some video content which is of mixed worth. Finally the blu-ray disc replicates a good bit of the DVD content which makes a good bit of the material redundant. That would be OK if the price wasn't so high so if you want high resolution surround sound it might be better to go with the SACD edition which is a fraction of the price.

I "acquired" it sans video, so I can't comment on value (though Pink Floyd is truly BEYOND value).

But for the person asking about Animals:

You Gotta Be Crazy and Raving and Drooling (precursors to Dogs and Sheep respectively) are in the set.

Raving and drooling I fell on his neck with a scream
He had a whole lotta terminal shock in his eyes
That's what you get for pretending the rest are not real

Babbling and snapping at far away flies
He will zig zag his way back through memories of boredom and pain

How does it feel to be empty and angry and spaced
Split up the middle between the illusion of safety in numbers
and the fist in your face

So I broke down last week and bought it, and love it. High quality material in all the extras, and the discs are great. The remastered WYWH sounds amazing, and Welcome To The Machine creeps me out even now more than ever. I can't stop listening to the disc.
