I shopped on Black Friday, once. I'll never do it again. It was a truly horrible experience. Scared the bejeebus out of me.

I'm probably going to Walmart on Thanksgiving since there will be a few items on sale that I want to buy and then me and my daughter are having Thanksgiving on Friday instead of Thursday due to problems with her car and schedule conflicts and then we might go shopping afterwards.

I then order gifts online to be shipped to my family so I don't have to worry about going to the post office and all that. Usually I have them shipped a coffee cake or a gift basket or something like that.

I doubt I'll order anything online that has to be shipped to my apartment since the fed ex man can't seem to figure out where I live and leaves my items at other places instead of my place no matter how many times I've SHOWED him where I live.

This somewhat reflects my feelings also. Did it ONCE. By the time I got out of the ONE STORE I went to I was seriously ready to commit murder. I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

I've already got the bulk of my shopping done. It's not going to be a big deal this year because I simply haven't got the cash. Not sure the tree will even go up. Depends on whether the crew wants to come to our place for Xmas or not. If it goes up, it may be down stairs in the partially finished lower level rather than the main. I am not sure what Nala would do with it whilst home unsupervised... The other two leave it alone but she has a tendency to get bored.

For me, I am looking forward to the extra paid time off and spending time with the people I love.

When I lived near my sisters and we all had young children, we would all get together at 5am on Black Friday, leave the kids with the husbands and we would make it a sisters' day out. It was a lot of fun. We got to get all the new and trendy toys for our kids, we'd have lots of laughs, bitch and moan about our husbands, have a nice lunch out, maybe a couple drinks, do some more shopping and then head home to relax with our family.

I used to really enjoy that. Now that my daughter is an adult with her own life and own home and life, I'm hoping to be able to enjoy doing the same thing with her and making it a mother/daughter day out in the same way.

Didn't some poor man get killed at a Walmart
last year during a Black Friday frenzy?
Squashed and trampled at the door , I think.
I hate mobs and malls to begin with so
I don't partake.
I do my shopping year round and make gifts.
Usually the only shopping outside of food
and drink I do at stores during the holiday
season is when we buy for the angel tree
charity.
The scariest holiday shoppers are moms on
a mission for whatever this seasons hot toy is.
Those women are dangerous.
Handmade gifts really are the best gifts to
receive in my opinion. They give and give.
When I put a quilt or afghan or embroidered
pillows my grandmother made for me as
Christmas presents it brings her back to me
in a way a store bought gift no matter how
expensive ever could.

I wouldn't go shopping on "black Friday" or to Walmart at gun point, so I guess I avoid a lot of this stuff.  While I do buy lots of presents for people, I try to avoid shopping frenzies.  I used to work in retail, as a store manager and buyer, 30 years ago when I got out of college.  I thought the Christmas grind was horrible then, but it is positively genteel compared to what stores do now.  Open on Thanksgiving?  What the hell is that all about.  I don't know why stores think more hours equate to more dollars (people only have so much money to spend) but I guess they do.  When I worked retail, it was typical to be closed on News Years Day, that was considered a holiday.  Then, one store started staying open, and in a couple of years, they all did.  I guess Thanksgiving is going to be the same way.

Most of my shopping was done LONG ago. All throughout the year. $20-40 from every pay check through the year, getting paid weekly, is an un-intrusive way of shopping and by the time Christmas rolls around I have a closet FULL of loot! :)

And hell with walmart and all the big companies and online stores for the most part. I like to hit little mom and pop stores. Way more fun and unusual things there. And a lot less crowds!

You couldn't GIVE me enough free shit to go into Walmart or stores like that on Black Friday.

I have shopping listed as a hard limit, and have yet to see an advertisement to entice me otherwise.
I did participate in one Black Friday with my son a few years back, who wanted to go to Best Buy
to purchase his first big screen tv, which he had been saving for. The store itself wasn't too crazy, but
because it is located right outside the major mall, the traffic congestion was horrendous!

I prefer shopping online. No rush, no waiting in line, and I can listen to the Christmas music
at a decent volume.
