Ok...so I know this is a medical issue that needs professional diagnosis...but would like to know if anyone else who has had a hysterectomy or knows anyone who has, who has had this problem.

I had a partial hysterctomy nearly 2 years ago. My uterus and cervix were taken. I stil cycle, hormonal etc..but what has occurred over the last 2 months is that Ive been extremely emotional, more so than usual..even get cramping like I'm about to have a period, and ive also had a few drops of blood (which is kinda weird)..after I get the drops of blood my emotional state normalises and all is well again.

Ive been to the doctor and had an ultrasound, there are no cysts to be found on or near my ovaries. She even took a swab cause I told her I had a showing of blood the previous day..but when the test came back there was no blood to be found in it (which was logical to me cause I had the blood the day before the test and the amount was small). I dont feel unwell or whatever. The doctor cant explain it.

Anyone heard of anything like this?

I'm wondering if its like a person who has had a limb amputated and they say they can still feel their leg or whatever that has been removed...which doesnt account for the blood but hey.

I had a complete hysterectomy in Feb of this year and i have mood swings that are sooooo much fun lol.  I also have cramping and there is nothing there to cramp not even an ovary so am thinking it is normal although must say have not missed any of these parts lol.  As for bleeding i have had some but is such a small amount i am thinking it is more to do with the way things were sewn to hold vagina together.  Either way is worth the discomfort for me except those pesky mood swings that get me into more trouble lol. Hope we both get some answers here

I'll start by volunteering OB/Gyn is not my area of expertise ... but sometimes being specialized in an area is the same as having blinders on ... one can't see the forest for the trees.

As long as there is no fever, swelling & ascites (as in BIG swelling), low blood pressure, discharge, or anemia, the scant bleeding may not be significant.  (It's important to rule out any post-operative infection, sepsis, DIC, PID, CA, etc ... but I'm sure your physicians have considered & tested for all of that.)

You might find some relief of the mood swings, cramping etc with a good Chinese trained acupuncturist.  Do NOT go to some American doc who's taken his weekend seminar in acupuncture to treat headaches.  You need someone who's studied for years.  I have a prejudice for classically trained Chinese acupuncturists ... but you might do well with docs using Japanese, Russian, French, German or Korean types of acupuncture as well.  And ... "oriental medicine" includes acupuncture ... the doc might choose not to even use needles ... a good oriental medicine doc only uses needles part of the time.

An alternative would be an Ayurvedic doc from India.  I know even fewer details about them, but had a doc friend (waaaaay back when) who studied it after he got his doctorate here.  He got some amazing results for conditions that did not respond to western treatments.

Hope this is of some help

I have never had this surgery, but have friends that did.  They report mood swings, depression,  and various other psychological effects.  These mostly went away after a while.  Some took as long as a year.  I really feel for you, my best friend had wild mood swings,  got so depressed, she was suicidal.  A support group worked for her, being able to talk about the issues involved with a hysterectomy with others that had the same experience. She also went on antidepressants.

If you have been thoroughly checked out by your doc, i would agree with ADomDoc,  about seeking alternative medicine for relief.of the physical and emotional signs and symptoms.

Just so you know,  A hysterectomy is the  removal of the uterus. Hysterectomy may be total (removing the body and cervix of the uterus) or partial (also called supra-cervical). Frequently, surgical removal of the ovaries, oophorectomy, is performed at the same time as a hysterectomy. The surgery is then called "total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy"   Many folks think a total hysterectomy is when the ovaries are removed, too, but this is really incorrect.

I am really intrigued by your thoughts regarding  "phantom pain"<the pain felt by amputees)and how it could relate to what you are experiencing.  If you find out more about that, would you please let us know?

Wishing you the best.

One possibility for monthly cramping w/ no uterus is endometriosis, where bits of uterine tissue grow outside of the uterus, in various places but generally somewhere in the abdomen.  They will respond to monthly hormone cycles just like uterine tissue by becoming engorged with blood, but there is no place for the blood to go.  It can be very painful.  It can also be very difficult to find and remove all of them during the surgery.    Not sure if an ultrasound would detect this condition.

slavejali,

perhaps you have seen this slave post to a few of these threads regarding the hormones/hysterectomy/PMS/periods-from-hell, etc.....well, since this slave had a partial hysterectomy, 13 years ago at age 27--her "symptoms" have changed, some increased, some decreased, some eliminated, most of all, the eventuality of ruptured ovary, cervical cancer, anemia, proliferation of endometrial implants, etc. are minimized if not eradicated.  however, it seems that the one that was left behind is doing the work of normal set of two.  the good outweighs the bad.

the last time this slave went in to complain, 8 years ago, the good Doc weighed all the pros and cons of getting rid of that over-producing ovary that was left behind and calling it a day with producing estrogen...and in the end when the benefits outweighed the discomfort, he gave some pretty sage advice..."Manage your symptoms.  WHat do you want a prescription for?"  this slave does it the homeopathic/natural/herbal/wholistic/spiritual way, without pharmeceuticals and it works better than any pharmeceutical the Docs have been able to come up with in the past 20 years!!

i had a complete hysterectomy when i was 25 years old. i was not put on hormone replacement therapy right away and had the full effect of early menopause. after several months, my doctor did put me on hormones and with the exception of regulating the dose, i'm good as new. though it's a little off subject from the original post, i have had times where i haven't felt as much like a "woman" as i did prior to the surgery. there have even been times that i've missed having a period! my doctor said it was all normal and that the feelings should lessen once my body regulated with the hormones, which did eventually happen. there may be something behind your organs that your doctor can not see on ultrasound. if it is a really a problem, i would suggest to your doctor to do an exploratory surgery to see if you have endometrosis, hidden cysts, whatever. the surgery is minimually invasive and has a quick recovery time. either way, good luck.

When my mother had her radical hysterectomy (they had to take EVERYTHING, instant menopause, which yes it was horrible for her, but damn my family was NOT ready for a 38 year old psychotically menopausal woman overnight)
Even though they took the cervix area they left some there that wasn't infected so that the sensations around her cervix would remain "normal", for a number of months after (since they'd put her on hormone replacement) she too had minor bleeding, apparently there was *just* enough cervix that with the hormones her body was getting her system was trying to 'line' what was left of her reproductive system. Could that be it?
