Haha that's true, a big "you're going it wrong" would be pretty impolite in the middle of dinner. :p
You're right about the different rules depending on the situation; more lax at home vs a restaurant. I've lived in a variety of places and haven't really seen any strict adherence, other than general hannd preference... I thin the strictness or lack of it kinda depends on social/income brackets.

I can't speak for the entire UK, but like most cultural things, you just *know* what's acceptable
and what isn't and it's barely thought about.

I wonder if this is the reason Peon has such difficulty pummelling Percy with his right hand? [8D]

One of my boy's friends comes from a very different background(culteral) and had Xmas dinner with us last year for the first time. He always has mayo with EVERYTHING , and I mean EVERYTHING, but even WE fell about with laughter as he added huge dollops of mayo to his Danish Xmas meal. Much ribbing took place after that.

When we make people hot drinks here, we ask if they'd like sugar and/or milk but with Keiron we always ask if he'd like mayo :)

I don't think so. I just think he has too much time having to sort out his *sensation situation* alone, so thinks about it too much ......lol

Proper American etiqute calls for the fork to be held in the right hand, then placed on a small dish, the fork is picked up with the left hand, the knife with the right, a small portion is to be cut, the knife put down, the fork put down, the fork picked up with the right hand and then the bite is taked. I prefer chopsticks! When I use western eating tools I keep my fork in my left hand and never put it down until I am finished with it.
