Thats interesting.

If it also removed those rights from Unions (which Citizens United defined), I might support it.

But it doesn't, Its just a pro union Democrat bill.

It will fail, my prediction.

"Reasserting the authority of Congress and the States to crack down on anonymous third party groups flooding our elections with malicious attack ads and to limit campaign contributions and expenditures by individuals, candidates, and all types of private entities. "

Anyone else notice that it would require the states to crack down on OWS and demand it show wehre all its money came from.....

the amendment as expressed would conflict with the First. Not a chance in hell it ever even gets to a vote.

This is moronic.
Is your amendment just a giveaway to unions?

No. Labor unions are legally recognized as representatives of workers, who are natural persons with constitutional rights that deserve protections. While the OCCUPIED Amendment does not prevent unions from using the dues and donations of their workers, it will subject their political activities to laws limiting spending and expenditures, just as it does other private entities and all individuals.

Moronic squared. #OCCUPY is not a campaign for office.

luckydawg -> RE: The OCCUPIED Amendment (12/9/2011 5:49:04 PM)

so someone has comprehension problems....

THe amendment does not just apply to "campaigns for office"

Here's the text.

http://www.theoccupiedamendment.org/about/

Read it...

If you want to pretend its going to become law, go for it.

M cubed. An almost perfect example of the Strawman Fallacy.

luckydawg -> RE: The OCCUPIED Amendment (12/9/2011 6:59:58 PM)

So you think the FAQ on a website would take precedence over the text of the amendment if passed????

ok.....

might want to look up what a strawman argument is also....

Just saying....

joether -> RE: The OCCUPIED Amendment (12/9/2011 7:27:25 PM)

Have not heard of this Amendment proposal, but then again, a few tens of thousands are submitted to both the House and Senate every year, so I shouldnt be to surprised by it. I found This Video to say very similar things. Its a concept that seems to be growing in many parts of the country. As the nation stays in recession, people will naturally grow more resentful of the directionless rudder known as Congress. Their the folks that are responsible with the long term conditions of the nation. In both amendment proposals, the arguement is that corporations should not be counted as an individual person.

I for one support this concept. We immediately observed on the lead up to the 2010 election what corporations would do if the 'leash' was taken off. They pumped multiple millions into the Tea Party coffers. They have put 'collars' on most of the Republican elected officals in both the House and Senate. And the actions of these same elected officals have been keeping what is best for corporations and NOT for the average American. When was the last time us Americans accused the Republicans in office for looking out 'for Joe Q. America' interests BEFORE that of the corporation he works for? Republicans are going to pay HEAVILY in the next election for largely doing much of the damage that only now, many Americans are waking up to.

The founding fathers did not like how the nobles behaved back in the time shortly before the nation's creation. That nobles could get away with outright murder why the commoner was beaten harshly for petty offenses. They didnt like that goverments could look at someone's private life and than use that information for their own agenda and NOT for the betterment of that individual citizen; Corporations do that right now....and sell that information to each other. So, we get angry if the nation spies on us, but not corporations? Likewise, back in the age before the nation's creation, these 'nobles' came from powerful entities with their own 'coat of arms'. The modern corporations have their own coat of arms in the form of a corporate logo. How many can explain King George's coat of arms verse Best Buy's logo?

But the final amendment, what ever form it takes, will have to be examined carefully against not only the present condition(s) but also future concepts. In the 'Occupied Amendment' it mentions 'natural persons' as the only bears of having all the rights of being American. What happens if, down the road, that some group clones 400+ humans and releases them onto the nation (and the world)? Is it likely in the next ten years? Most likely no, but in forty?

All I am saying here, is that when it comes to a US Amendment, that we tread carefully and use a healthy dose of wisdom with it!
