Eat a meal that includes slow release carbs (pulses, brown rice/bread etc.) a while before play (an hour or more I would say depending on teh self knowledge teh diabetic has of their absorbtion) Test blood sugar before play (every responsible diabetic should have a test kit) Keep glucose tablets to hand or a liquid sugar solution (these get into teh blood stream very quickly and so can help prevent somene going down) Depending on teh length of the session have some slow release energy snacks available (fig rolls, dried fruit, oat bars etc) Make sure you know what the physical symptoms of your play partner are when they start to go down - sweaty skin? clammy and cold? pupils dilated? lack of concentration? bad or short temper? As a sub you are duty bound to be responsible for your own safety as much as your Dom/me - learn what is out of ordinary and how to spot it - if you safeworded in this circumstance cos you were concerned about the health of yr Dom/me I cannot see that they would ever have an issue about that as it does ultimately affect your safety too. as a Domme you have to reconise the responsibility for the person in your care and NOT assume given reactins are due to sub space (VERY IMPORTANT as some of teh symptoms could be confused) If you are especially concerned make sure that there is a panic button or alarm device close to hand and that, until you both understand how play affects the diabetics body functions and responses, that both of you can get to it if need be. Try testing blood sugar throughout a session or 8 to see how play affects sugar levels as it can be easy for adrenaline or endorphins to mask other symptoms. (As Dom/me you could even include this as part of play on yr sub) Beware of damage to a diabetic - many do NOT heal well and will suffer surface infections and slow healing - taking weeks or months to heal a small scratch. Nerve damage is a risk as are circulatory problems. DO NOT TAKETHESE LIGHTLY - gangrene is a serious problem and amputation is a common occurance for long term diabetics. If you wound a diabetic sub check their healing FREQUENTLY and do NOT hesitate to get medical advice or help if infection occurs. better still recognise that they may have limits inflicted by their condition that have nothing to do with personal limits and these should be respected if you are both to stay healthy, safe, etc. Hope this helps - my ex was diabetic from teh age of 3 and we were togeter 18 yrs so I have some experience.
