Let me preface by saying I saw my GYN last week regarding my fibroids and will be going back to see her again after my MRI (which was indicated by the ultrasound results). I'm educating myself so I can have an intelligent conversation with my doctor.

I'd like to hear the experiences of women who have used Tranexamic acid / Lysteda for heavy bleeding.

This is a a synthetic derivative of the amino acid lysine - so the question that immediately springs to my mind is can lysine be used instead and if so, in what dosage?

Additional options we discussed were uterine embolization and hysterectomy, which I'd like to avoid if possible as menopause is supposed to take care of this, but statistically, I am years off. Anyone have fibroids shrink drastically post menopause?

I have used tranexamic acid in the past successfully. I used it in conjunction with mefenamic acid so my periods were less pain and less heavy. The only noticeable side effect, warning, TMI, is it can make it more 'clotty'.

Lysine in its original form can be used for a number of health issues for people (and cats!) but I don't think it's interchangeable with tranexamic acid. Ultimately, if you are interested in an alternative therapy for fibroids, would you be open to seeing a naturopath or similar? I'm sure they could make a potion. :)

kalika, wish I could give you advice, but I am not familiar enough with it.

I am open to seeing a naturopath; just need to find one. I saw an acupuncturist who did help with the pain in my knee but alas was not effective with my fibroids. She recommended Vitex, which I was already taking.
