Last night I tried to find an answer to how much current draw was likely, and what I found was that wet skin conducts electricity at 1000 ohms per square centimeter. Battery spec sheets say that the electrodes on 9 volts can be as large as 1/4 square centimeter, but that most of the newer ones use a manufacturing shortcut which reduces the useful surface area of the positive terminal by 75% or more. Which gives an impedance of 4000-18000 ohms, and a current draw of .5 - 2.2 milliamps -- somewhere between barely perceptable and fairly uncomfortable. Quality of contact (including wetness and electrode design) is a huge variable, potentially cutting the effects by 5000:1 or more. So then I decided to try it out. Yes, you can definitely feel some electricity, but not without pressing the battery terminals against moistened skin, and pressing harder than I would have guessed.
AAA, AA, C and D cells all have nice, big electrodes, why do 9Vs have to have such lousy little ones?
The gods of kink don't seem to have been on our side when they designed nine volt batteries.
