As part of a weight loss program, my personal trainer is advising me to drink a gallon, and eventually 2 gallons, of water per day. While I trust his training and credentials, this seems excessive. The reasoning is that water helps one feel full, helps clear toxins from one's body, causes one's liver and kidneys to function better, and, if the water is ice cold, causes the body to expend calories warming it up. That is a lot of water. Anyone ever tried this before? Any ill consequences besides having to run to the bathroom every half hour?
