I met my ex (Dom) almost 9 years ago and was brought into the lifestyle at that point, so I wasn't looking. The last year we were "together" was basically non-existent because I rarely saw him and had mentally checked out of whatever that mess was. I decided I wanted a male sub about that same time but didn't actively seek one for about 6 months, which is when Geoff and I started talking regularly. It was a good match, and I'd say I didn't really look after that point. So, less than a year.

It's never taken me a year to find a partner. Seems like it takes a anywhere from a few days to a few months at the most by my experiences.

I have been looking for a decent Dom since I started in the lifestyle. I wore a collar for a few months once, but he was a jack ass and I tore it off and threw it at him. I had a female sub once, but she was obsessed with sex and wouldn't listen to anything, so I am not totally interested in having a sub to keep.

This is a strange question. How do we define "seeking" exactly? If I'm engaged in casual play but not interested in a slave, is that "seeking" time? I mean, I'm "seeking" play partners in that scenario, I guess, but unless someone perfect falls into (across ^.^) my lap I'm not "seeking" to possess anyone. By the same token I wouldn't mind having someone to cook for me (seriously... come cook for me. Anyone. Please. If I have noodles one more bloody time I'm going to shoot myself in the head) which counts as service, and given that they'd be serving me and I'd no doubt boss them around and/or inflict various indignities on them as they worked their service would probably could as BDSM and by extension my desire for them could probably count as "seeking." For a strict enough definition it's probably sitting a <1 year, and for a loose enough definition you could include my entire time in the lifestyle. I guess what I'm saying is, I'm hungry and hate standing up.
