While it does sound like the TIC part of PANDAS (and here's another link http://www.adhd.com.au/PANDAS.htm ) I wanted to mention that when I worked in a building that turned out to have toxic mold I developed a lot of neurological symptoms (although not the ones you've mention.) Have there been recent renovations at home or school? New carpet in particular can be very toxic and cause neurological symptoms. I give you more info if this is relevant.

re: Lyme, the ticks are so tiny and fall off on their own in just a few days. Not finding a bite site is not uncommon and quite often the bullseye rash is absent or in a place not easily seen; just information you should be aware of. Zithromax is one of those drugs that has been connected to dystonia. As for conversion disorder: it is not hysteria, it is a real medical condition with psychological roots: it is the conversion of emotional trauma into somatic symptoms. I agree that even if it is mental, it is very real. Trust me when I tell you, there will be no stronger flag carrying member of the mentally ill than I am. I have battled manic depression, ptsd, ocd, adult ADD, and night terrors almost since I can remember. I ain't zactly balanced just yet, but I am getting better every day. One of the sites I read stated that conversion disorder was basically hysteria, and that it was from stress and anxiety. I know how those two things can put a serious crinkle in any one's program, so I totally get the reality of it. At this point, I am so exhausted from watching her go thru this, from feeling so helpless and from wondering what to do about it, I want to scream. I remember laughing one time because she could sleep through a civil war, now we are lucky if she sleeps through an afternoon power nap. It's hard seeing your kid like this. If you knew Bear, you would know that she got the name honestly. Kid is tough as nails, and is quick to tell someone all about themselves. After not even a full week of this, she is defeated, exhausted, frustrated and depressed. That isn't constant, she does have moments where she can laugh about it. She had a spasm while trying to sneeze and apparently her brain flew out her nose, so she walked around for 20 minutes trying to get me to check her frontal lobe while it was laying on her cheek. Lol. Gross, and morbid I know, but that is her. She is just a little punk rock kid...yanno?

So. Doctor brain child has ordered more testing, EKG's and some pulmonary work. He is also thinking of MRI's and Cat scans. I am wondering how much I need to let them poke at her before I finally start tearing heads off. Probably not the best out look to have, but I know all the mom's and dad's out there have asked themselves the same things with a sick kid. I guess I gotta just button down and do what needs did.

Tough , not knowing is the worst. Those girls from the Today show live about 60 miles from here. There is a rumor floating around that only a couple of them had the symptoms, the rest were imitating / mocking. Still at least a couple of the girls look really affected. To say that they have ruled out environmental causes, before they've determined the cause, is ludicrous. There has to be a common denominator. I'm a big believer in natural healing. Maybe try taking her to a chiropractor. Change up the diet, cut all sugars out, see if it makes a difference. Or dairy. Or wheat gluten. Fasting. Meditation. At least you'll be doing something while you wait for the interminable tests. You're doing well OP, keep control of the situation; question, pester, make demands.Be careful of these doctors, if it doesnt seem right, it probably isn't. All the best to you and your family, sending healing vibes your way

I posted on the video, just asking for them to please pass information along to me so I could compare notes and take things to the doctor. So far, everything has been the same, except that dilaudid at the ER. I wondered when they gave her that what they were thinking. But she was hurting so bad, I didn't really think hard about it. Now that I have something more solid to go on, I am looking at real possibilities instead of picking at her brain. Teenage brains are already tormented enough, even if they have no reason to be, so why am I going to let them pull her apart to test a theory. I wonder if any one has suggested to those moms that it may be PANDAS?

I poked around a bit more on research sites today, there's more work being done on correlation of lesions or unusual activity involving the amygdala with various behavioral 'twitches', but most of it only has abstracts available. Some of those indicate possible linkage to drugs, toxins, infections, etc. As others have said, I'd say to stick with your guns, there's a 'cause' somewhere.

I live not too far from Leroy, NY ('bout 30 to 40 minute drive) and this has been a very big local story. Shouting matches have already begun in local letters to the editor with everything being blamed from "their attention seeking fakers" to "evil chemical companies have been secretly burying toxic waste next to the school." Even Erin Brokovich has gotten involved. I do find it interesting that so far, with only one recent exception, it is only girls that have been affected. I don't have any answers, I'm afraid, but my thoughts go out to you and your daughter and I hope you find your answers soon and that she makes a full recovery.

Yes, it does happen, particularly under conditions of severe psychological stress, but I suspect it's also a fad diagnosis at the moment, it hasn't really been seen with any great incidence since the Middle Ages, outside of a rock concert, and most of those cases are suspected to have been ergot poisoning. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ergotism Get a second opinion, and even a Third if you have to.

I look at the symptoms those girls presented and am reminded of a shipmate that was diagnosed with chronic bromide poisoning. If you take a healthy person and expose them to bromides for a long period of time, they get symptoms of ADHD, twiitches, and if continued exposure occurs present as paranoid schizophrenics. And ergot poisioning.. ergot is the source of the base chemicals for Lysergic Acid Diethylimide... LSD. Not a hard chemical to make once you infect your rye grain with ergot.

Nothing to fuck with, the symptoms of raw ergot poisoning can be quite severe, much of what was believed to be leprosy was actually the result of ergot poisoning.

Yeah. Like I feel a lil edgy tonight. Like...I expect the guys from E.T. to show up and bag and tag my house. I think they are just covering bases, but....I am more than a little freaked out. They wouldn't answer any direct questions. I caught them in several lies...And I mean like obvious ones. And they wouldn't give straight or detailed answers... After about 20 minutes I explained to them that we had a long night, Bear was tired and it was time for them to leave. They kinda got pushy, but I was like "look, she's sick, according to the doctor, they say this stress related and you are stressing her out. It's time to go."
