I feel the need to speak to this, though and I think the OP may have a point because I have encountered a few "submissives" who have been obstinate or out-and-out disobedient because, in their view, that will get them a spanking (or a flogging or whatever).
My line of thinking is that a dominant doesn't "take"; they graciously accept a lady's submission when it is offered to them (if they find the lady and her service to be of value). Obviously, that means that the lady that feels like she has to misbehave to get what she wants is not going to be a good match for me.
For the OP: If this kind of behavior is really bothering you, it is quite simple to correct. Tell these ladies that you don't reward bad behavior and mean it. "Don't make me not hurt/spank/flog/whatever you" can be quite a powerfully persuasive tool if you back it up.

To you and the OP, not the women here posting passive-aggressive "advice" and challenges and of course needing a little expert hair pulling themselves, don't you ladies? Very BAD Girls with too much time on their hands.
On the subject, I find that newly met submissives are rightly and normally "obstinate" and "talking back" and "disobedient" with few exceptions. This is a good thing and not something you should dread. The OP is correct also, just his wording is unfortunate, but the concept is correct because the sub is testing your power and of course you must have it to show it and we are not talking about physical power here nor are we talking about using whips or such to show her power, instead we are talking about the power derived from experience, confidence and the id, ego and developed super-ego unique to the Dom, the master of women and the world he controls. The only time a newly met submissive is not "obstinate" etc. is if she is worthless, a weak minded child slut who I promise you will not satisfy, so be glad you have met a woman with brains and who tests you at first and again and again.
