Absolutely  Kali!
You would be amazed and horrified if you saw what we can grow off swabs from money.
Handwashing is one of the best and easiest things anyone can do to minimize the risk of catching colds and flu. Those little hand sanitizers don't come close to proper handwashing, but they are better than nothing, and they are really designed for when you have no access to running water but have to eat, etc.

I would love to type what I'm really thinking about your post about where you encourage others to commit suicide....but it would earn me a gold letter.  feel free to guess.

I have had to remove a post that violated guidelines, as well as those that quoted it, or quoted one that quoted. Kind of like a domino effect. If you did not receive a mail and want a copy of your post please contact me.

You have exciting work. Lots of cloak and dagger and people dying in "traffic accidents" and found floating in rivers, I imagine. And who do you trust? Your boss? A judge? A politician? A co-worker? A milkman? A police officer? An agent from a secret service? Your wife? None of them, of course: they can all be affiliated with the sociopaths that released the anthrax bacteria in 2001, the West Nile virus in New York, or the HIV.

Yesterday I was googling a bit for suspicious deaths in the biological warfare business, and guess whom I ran into? Timmy McVeigh. That was a surprise.

It is good that I have no clue. Anyone who does is likely to turn up dead.

Actually, most of it is quite mundane.  A woman convinced that terrorists have put white powder in her foot powder and now she has white powder all over her bedroom slippers. And wants me to package it up and send it to the lab for testing. Other days, it's much more practical.

The sociopath who released Anthrax took his own life rather than face trial.  West Nile was a result of those terribly covert miniature terrorists, also known as mosquitoes. Viruses have existed long before man, and will exist long after we're gone. Mother Nature is far more adept at destroying her work than we will ever be.

But folks who are convinced that the government created them in labs give the government entirely too much credit.  Nature is much more efficient and effective than anything the feds could ever dream of cooking up.  And you didn't google hard enough--Timothy McVeigh was executed for what at the time was the deadliest domestic terrorist incident in US history--but he had no tie to bioterrorism--his method was ammonia nitrate-based explosives.  I saw his handiwork at the OKC memorial. There was nothing suspicious about his death--he was proud of his atrocities and deserved to die.

This thread was about immune systems and blood type, no?

no.

however, people who lead the super clean lifestyles will generally have a lower immune system than say a farmer. we need to be exposed to things to be stronger. the obsession with 100% germ free life is what is creating the super bugs. i'm not talking hospitals but in general life, we are designed to cope with these things. it's where the 'what doesn't kill us makes us stronger' thing comes into play.

as for your blood group, your blood is either good or not and if not it needs investigating.

Totally agree. I suffer from Crohns disease and one Consultant that I saw is convinced that super clean lifestyles and the obsession of using bleach etc.

Who really takes the Daily Mail seriously?

hausboy -> RE: blood type and immune system (2/14/2012 5:04:19 PM)

I will be interested to read about it in the medical journals--as in...the published medical journals....I'm not familiar with this publication but it looks a bit, er....tabloid?

Better ?

Just think it's odd people just say no without any backup.

Here's a pdf that seems more reliable.
At least I try to support my opinion. And take the time to google and share.[:D]

That's very interesting. That is the first I've seen of any link between blood type and immune system, but this clearly suggests that there are some differences. I wonder if it is not studied that much and that is why we don't see much information about it, or if it has been studied and the immune differences are just small.

kitkat105 -> RE: blood type and immune system (2/15/2012 2:09:20 PM)

I still call shenanigans. How can they compare 1 person to another? People are raised differently, in different environments, with different exposure. Immunity is unique to the individual.

By their theory, you should encounter the same immunity advantages or disadvantages as one of your parents. Because remember, you are related and have the same blood type!

Well the study that was cited seemed to only identify one disease, stomach cancer (a fairly rare cancer to begin with), where they saw any rate differences between the blood types - so it was not a statement that overall immunity is stronger or weaker for a particular blood type. I just thought it was interesting that they found any difference at all for anything.

I am a rabid hand washer, one might think i had OCD.. lol..

I remember grabbing a burger one day with my boyfriend and we sat down at a table, then before eating, we both went to the washroom to wash our hands.. I overheard a lady at the next table comment that you so rarely see people wash their hands before eating anymore.. And that is so true...

MrBukani -> RE: blood type and immune system (2/16/2012 12:33:38 AM)

I have done extensive research online about CCR5-delta32 over the years.
I believe, I read somewhere in there, that it is most common to certain bloodtypes.
I think it's a givin, bloodtypes are different in their resistance to diseases.
Just common logical sense, considering genetic inheritance.
Not gonna plough through the whole research data to come up with it now.
No shamrocks nor shenanigans.

Renthor -> RE: blood type and immune system (3/16/2012 5:44:56 PM)

** probably has been said already

Blood type has very little to do with the immune system

and nothing to do with immune system strength.

what it does have to do with the immune system is each blood type, will provide a specific type of antigen (external tag to identify the blood by the immune system) so if you get a different type of blood infused, it will be attacked by your immune system and cause huge issues.

but as far as immune stregnth goes, genetics plays a huge part, and the research into immune response, and genetic pre-disposition for immune system stregnth is vast and ongoing
