LA has a ton of events. Threshold is really good for newbies. They have hands on demonstrations and chat groups.

You are so incredibly lucky to live in an area that has so many resources! It shouldn't take you long at all to find multiple groups and activites that you can get involved with.

I must say I'm rather envious lol.
