Status: offline 		There was a big discussion about this.  Someone in the IRS supposedly has the idea that things like online swords and land and what not are virtual assets, since they're bought and sold on Ebay--and are therefore taxable.  I have an idea: instead of going after a virtual Sword of Buttfucking +3, why not tax Exxon?

Because Exxon, like all companies, doesn't actually "pay" taxes, they simply pass the increase on to their customers by raising the price of their goods and/or services.

Taxing gas at the pump has the exact same effect as taxing Exxon, but is a bit more transparent to the consumer.

Actually, I have read several threads on other forums about how the 'kinksters', as they put it, are overrunning the online SIMS game.

Because our government is somewhat socialistic in it's attempts to control things in the financial market.  We offer incentives and other subsidies to industries we think are worthwhile and important to our nation.  Agriculture is one of the most obvious, as we don't want to rely on foreign grain.

I'm sort of butting into this, but what subsidies does Exxon get? I seriously can't think of any. I mean, I abhor energy companies ripping off the public, but I can't think of how the gov't helps them get away with it.

About ten-twelve years ago, when the members of OPEC wern't colluding and instead cutting each other's throat, oil was at twelve bucks a barell and the Petroleum industry operated more like public utility{With no mergers and lots of competition}. They petioned congress for the subsides under the guise of R&D and new drilling ventures in the gulf, and that's all she wrote. They'll never give it back.
