This is just awesome!

Zombie Preparedness Kit

I want to buy this:

Food Supply

I think that it would be a good thing to have, especially living in Tornado Ally. It also appeals to my "always be prepared" gene. Think about it. Should something happen (job loss or accident or such), I could feed my family for at least six to eight weeks. The menu would be boring, but no one would starve.

Hahaha that's super cool ^_^ This summer, I'm planning to get back into archery and try out crossbows, just for fun.

Emergency food is a great idea -- when my hometown flooded, a lot of people were stranded, and even if you coudl get to the store, everything was gone. =p It would be good to have, just in case. Like a crank-power radio and all that jazz.

Apocalypse Chow: How to Eat Well When the Power Goes Out

Right now, somewhere in America, a storm has knocked out the electricity. With Apocalypse Chow! Jon Robertson delivers a very practical guide to eating with elegance even when the refrigerator, stove, and microwave are rendered powerless.

With simple tips on how to shop, store, and prepare gourmet food, this book will help anyone who is forced to dine in the dark. Discover how the right nonperishables and a little creative heat can turn into renowned chef Robin Robertson's savory Almost-Instant Black Bean Chili, Pantry Pasta Salad, and Fire-Roasted Blueberry Cobbler, among many others.

"Having grown up living on the coast of Georgia and Florida, I personally know that hurricanes are a fact of life. And as this hilarious and infinitely useful book points out, the real terror begins after the hurricane, after you eaten the contents of your refrigerator and freezer. Terror arrives in the form of weeks of no electricity, quite possibly no water or phone service, but most of all the terror arrives in the form of beenie weenies, spam, cold Dinty Moore chili- need I say more? A Couple of weeks of this and you start becoming a savage. In addition to approximately 50 recipes that can be put together with staples that don't require a refrigerator and can be cooked over a single butane burner, this book gives really good pointers for staying safe and what to do in all types of disasters. This book is humorous, flows well and gives you all the information you need to ride out the next disaster, whether it be a rolling blackout or a hurricane in fine cuisine style. All recipes are also structured for easy cleanup and minimal preparation. The recipes, while all vegetarian, sound a whole lot better than eating Cheetos, salsa and canned meats for what could be just hours or a matter of weeks. An absolutely terrific book and something everyone should have in their home."

Great idea, Kali!

Kaliko -> RE: Zombie Preparedness Kit (2/8/2012 2:27:18 PM)

All the disaster preparedness, etc...I'm completely on board.

BUT WHAT IS WITH THE ZOMBIE STUFF EVERYWHERE? What has happened to our usually fairly rational and unimaginative adult population?

And besides, for the record...vampires trump zombies.

OsideGirl -> RE: Zombie Preparedness Kit (2/8/2012 2:39:36 PM)

Zombies are a running joke in our house and among our friends, ever since the CDC announcement.

We have 2 cases of MREs and about 20 gallons of water in case of earthquake or a massive power outage that takes out half the state. [;)]

Kaliko -> RE: Zombie Preparedness Kit (2/8/2012 2:47:16 PM)

Oh - well that's actually kind of cool! Thank you for that link. :)

No way! Once all the humans are toast, the Vampires have no more food source. Zombies win!

Thank you for that link!!! I did not realize the CDC had a Zombie web page. Too kewl! That is the best laugh I have had today.

Tsk. Obviously not a Cullen fan. Vegetarian vampires eat animals, not humans. They're the good vampires. And they're friggin' steamy.

Pshaw! There aren't enough of them. One good zombie hoard and those veggie vamps are worm food or future zombies. Oh, vamp zombies.. now there's some coolness right there!

Zombies Vs Vampires

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Zombie Preparedness Kit (2/9/2012 6:38:59 AM)

I wonder what would happen if a zombie ate vampire? And in Interview with a Vampire, wasn't animal blood super low-quality, and only a scavenger who really needed to survive would do it? So would vamps who ate animals be weaker? The zombies could easily overwhelm them if they're numbers are small.

But if the zombies run out of people, eventually they have nothing else to eat either -- they don't generally seem to eat animals. But do zombies even really need to eat, or is it just a compulsion? It's not like they'd really starve to death, since they aren't actually alive, anyway -- but they'd still just decay away into little scribblets on the sidewalk. Could animaltarian vampires and zombies co-exist? Or would the vamps try to steal the human food stock away from them?

These are the most important matters of our time!

~FR~

I could see using that kit on some of the idjits posting here and FL. It would be doing a service.

Ok, who knows the origin of the Zombie Apocalypse meme?
