Stance on the reproductive rights of women

Oklahoma Democrat Adds ‘Every Sperm Is Sacred’ Amendment To Personhood Bill. State Senator Constance Johnson of Oklahoma City has served Oklahoma’s State Senate 2005, but the introduction of Senate Bill 1433 that really pushed her over the edge. The bill sought to define human life as beginning at the moment of conception, before it’s even implanted in the womb, and offers full legal protection to those tiny multicelled lumps. In the words of the bill, “the unborn child at every stage of development (has) all the rights, privileges, and immunities available to other persons, citizens, and residents of this state.”

Johnson submitted an amendment of her own to the bill, which would have added the language,

However, any action in which a man ejaculates or otherwise deposits semen anywhere but in a woman’s vagina shall be interpreted and construed as an action against an unborn child.

She explained that the amendment was intended to "draw attention to the absurdity, duplicity and lack of balance inherent in the policies of this state in regard to women".

SB 1433 would give fertilzed eggs the same legal rights as human beings through all stages of conception. It is one of many controversial "personhood" bills introduced across the United States that have further driven a wedge between pro-abortion and anti-abortion advocates. Similar bills have recently been introduced in Virginia and Utah.

Medical professionals have voiced concerns about the sometimes unclear language used in personhood bills. "Embryos, including those frozen in storage, are now persons," Dr. Eli Reshef, medical director at the Bennett Fertility Institute, told Tulsa World. "Do they have to be counted in the Census? I know this might sound like stretching, but this is how vague a law like this is."

State Sen. Jim Wilson, another critic of bill, tried to add his own amendment to SB 1433 that would hold men more accountable for protecting the fetus. He proposed that the father of the unborn child should be "financially responsible for its mother's health care, housing, transportation and nourishment while she is pregnant," Tulsa World reported.

His amendment failed.

The last two sentences show what this is really about. I've met two sorts of pro-life folks, and one I can get along with just fine, but the other group disgusts me. I can respectfully disagree with someone who says "at conception it's a baby," and it isn't totally disagreement with their point, I know the pain of seeing a woman you love miscarry. I just think that a woman's body is her own, and until they come up with a way to raise baby's in test tubes we have to respect a woman's life too. But I am happy to share the planet with folks who are on the other side of the issue, we both have valid points and care about the right things, just in different ways.
But there are a lot of pro-life folks who don't like abortion because it allows "harlots," to "escape the punishment for their sins." These are the folks who are against abortion and welfare. They want the baby born, but they want that so the mother will suffer and "learn not to have sex out of wedlock." These folks generally only pay lip service to the idea that men shouldn't have sex outside marriage (think Gingrich).
Of course, I'm a fan of open marriage, so you can call me a hypocrite.

That's why I think it's convenient to distinguish between the anti-choice stance and the pro-life stance. In the public debate, the anti-choice crowd hides inside the pro-life crowd, making the topic fuzzy. The reality is, some people just want to control women (or, at least, women's bodies), while others want to save potential lives (the west doesn't permit terminating after viability). Keeping the difference in mind makes it easier to locate compromises that work for everyone that has a positive agenda.

Health,
al-Aswad.

If every sperm is sacred then there is only one possible solution:

Every time a guy gets a woody he'll have to discharge into a test tube and immediately run to the nearest sperm bank to have it frozen so that each and every one can be joined with an egg (surely those are sacred too - the extraction process will probably be a little more complicated) and implanted in a womb.  The earth only has seven billion people on it, no doubt it can support several trillion more.

Marc - the potential people production plant - 2b

That might not be such a bad idea. It could enable women in future generations to have your baby. A picture of you could be placed next to your sperm with your biography to show respect.

Above the door to the clinic the following words appear, placed there by the founder: "He wanted so much to be a father, but no woman wanted him for no woman understood his worth while he lived. Instead, he speaks to you across time, my children wait to be born!"

Happy Valentine's Day!

Yeah, I am unsure whether when a woman snaps one off, even in full out shower the room should be in the bathtub squirt, that they would eject eggs......that is going to be one for the ages, with all the extra moving parts they have..........
