Condoms are only as safe as the person using them. Although it doesn't happen often, they can split, slip and otherwise fail. They also do not protect against EVERY STI. They won't offer much protection against pubic lice (which can live in any hair around the groin and anus, as well as other parts of the body). If the person you're having sex with has genital warts which are not just on the penis, then you can end up with a nasty case of anal warts from skin to skin contact. If the other person has any kind of infection that causes lesions not just on the shaft of the penis but on unprotected areas of skin around the penis, then again you risk infection from those. My other concern would be with you being an anal virgin. I know from experience that first time anal sex should not be rushed into. You need to be 'opened' gradually (maybe over a single session, maybe over several sessions, depending on your body's responses) so that having a penis in your butt does not cause tearing. It's also not uncommon for bleeding to occur, so you effectively have an open wound only a condom's width away from someone's potentially infected semen. All in all, I'd say listen to your inner voice which seems to be giving you some great advice. Don't rush into this...if you do decide to do this, then make sure you see recent STI screenings and ensure they 'play safe'. Don't risk your long-term health for a moment of fantasy. Good luck!
