My ancestry is northern European for the most part. I have to assume a lot of carbs and animal protein along with preserve/pickled veggies of sorts.

I don't care what anyone says, eating too much carbs and animal protein is not going to be healthy for me. My dead, more recent relatives are testament to that. And pickled stuff....YUCK!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, that is what i feel too, too much animal protein (I do eat some, but prefer mostly fish and seafood, and veggie protein) and I know for a fact that too many carbs are bad for me.. A few years ago I started getting really bad backaches.. since i have a curved spine i thought it was just due to that.. i went to the chiropractor more often but that didnt help the backache like it usually did..

The pain got worse and worse and spread, from my neck to my butt bone, it was so intense and constant 24/7.. i couldnt lay down and sleep for more than a short time, i could not even sit down for more than two minutes.. standing was the least painful for me.. and I was going batty, couldnt think straight due to lack of sleep and the pain..

So in an effort to get some relief for the pain i finally went to an accupuncturist.. he told me my problem was not my back but my stomach,.. in other words, it was what i was eating.. I thought he was nuts but went home and googled and sure enough he was right.. when you eat too many carbs and processed food, you get inflamation,.. in some people backache is a symptom of that inflamation, just as it was for me.. So I drastically changed my diet, in a few days the pain lessened, and 2 weeks later I was pain free! And the sun shone once again..

I dont mind pickled stuff, sauerkraut isnt something i think to eat often tho,.. and i would probably prefer kim chi.. something i never tasted until i was an adult..

Interesting. Carbs per se are not an issue for me, but the type of carb matters. (Again, I am not focusing on weight - because obviously too many carbs and one will most definitely gain weight unless you are Michael Phelps).

I can tolerate rice and potatoes and unleavened bread very well (all part of traditional foods for my family). Leavened bread (not a traditional food for my ancestors) makes me bloat and feel quite ill if I consume too much on a regular basis. The issue is not the wheat, as I can eat unleavened bread or other wheat products. The issue for me is the yeast.
