I think that's what I was saying -- Rush isn't being censored.

It is interesting, though that there's a petition on the whitehouse website (which we pay for) to remove Limbaugh from AFR.

I am not saying people don't have a right to ask for this. I'm saying: if it's on the whitehouse website, isn't that sort of "the government" endorsing the action ie; censorship to some degree?

Peace and comfort,

Michael

If I'm understanding the interface correctly, this is one of a number of user-generated petitions on the White House site. There's one calling on Obama to stop "infringing on religious liberty" with the HHS contraceptive mandate and another asking the President to resign. I think the White House is simply providing a platform for people to express views, not endorsing the views expressed.

Yes. Initially, I just verified that it was a Whitehouse website.

I cleared that up Here (Page 3 Post #53)

and on my video blog (entitled: "Clearing Up Mistakes/Fluke Goes Fishing").

Thank you.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

You really think people are going to stop listening to their favorite radio stations just because they broadcast Rush for three of the 24 hours a day?

YOU really DON'T get What Clear Channel is, do you?

They own the gate at 80-90% of all concert venues whether they have a stake in the actual venue or not.
They have literally thousands of local affiliates. They are the radio/live equivalent to NBC. AND JUST LIKE NBC or any other major network, if an organ won't stop bleeding. They cut it out. Just business usual. Rush is TOTALLY vulnerable to boycott... whether the parties watching it are behind it or not.
You know WHEN you start airing two and three performances of your apology? When you are shitting your pants. Rush is sitting RIGHT NOW on a big ole cow Pattie of his OWN making.

And yeah... call the EMTs...you're doing a shitty job keeping pressure on the wound.

You understand it perfectly. It is a SERVICE of the White House to give "The People" a greater voice. It in no way implicates the Executive Branch has taken a position on Limbaugh other than what's already been said on the public airwaves or in publicized calls to Ms. Fluke.
I'm actually fairly impressed, since EVEN if the White House doesn't take the matter up... The issue isc THERE. in the redressing party's own words with no filter by the press. What prior President ever facilitated something like that?

Rush Limbaugh Closes First Hour With Dead Air

Rush Limbaugh closed the first hour of his radio show on his flagship station, WABC, with 1:03 of dead air on Thursday.

From WABC's online feed of the final commercial break of the first hour:

[audio]

While advertisers have fled Limbaugh's show since his misogynistic attacks on Sandra Fluke, the first hour of every show since those attacks aired on March 1 has concluded with at least one ad leading into an ABC News break at the top of the second hour. On Wednesday, the first hour concluded with an ad from Matrix Direct, which has told radio stations to stop airing its ads during The Rush Limbaugh Show.

At least 46 advertisers have reportedly dropped their ads from Limbaugh's radio show since his attacks on Fluke.

UPDATE: Similarly, during the commercial break that led into the show, there was 2:38 of dead air:

[audio]

It's unclear why nothing could be heard during these periods of the broadcast.

That I didn't recognize that the "petition section" of the whitehouse website is there for any and all to use I have to bow and apologize. Mea culpa. That was a bad job on my part. I will own that. But, I will not own a position that you try to foist upon me

Michael,
I think it shows a lot of class that you acknowledged your mistake, and for the record I think Edwynn was overdoing it.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, DS.  That is just Edwynn's modus operandi.  Does it to me all the time.

It is interesting though, that you have no issue with broadcasting traitorous bile via tax payer funded AFR...

I call: "Bullshit, Bob!". This was directed at me? You made a definitive, declarative statement attributing a certain position to me which I do not hold.

Just to clear things up: I have no issue with many different viewpoints getting out to the public no matter what the means of delivery. I have no issue with Bill Maher, calling Gov. Palin a "dumb twat" and a "cunt" except as regards to the silence from the pablum-puking lefties who don't seem to get as up in arms when other PPLs (Maher) attack people with whom they don't agree (Gov. Palin).

My only issue, here is that there seems to be a desire by some people to make sure that theirs is the only voice that's heard. That doesn't benefit a free society. Polite , thoughtful discourse is how issues get brought to light and minds get changed. Shouting one's opinion and then, shutting the other side up may not be government censorship but it is censorship, all the same.

I can't condone the behavior of the "If your opinion doesn't match mine, I'll do whatever I can to shut you up" crowd. Sorry. That is detrimental to the free and open exchange of ideas which is a necessity for a free society. It's also about a half a step up the intelligence scale from the six year-old, shouting their point of view and then, sticking their fingers in their ears and doing the "La-la-la-la-la" thing. It's a waste of time and pearls before swine.

That I didn't recognize that the "petition section" of the whitehouse website is there for any and all to use I have to bow and apologize. Mea culpa. That was a bad job on my part. I will own that. But, I will not own a position that you try to foist upon me.

I don't agree with a lot of what Limbaugh says and I don't agree, a lot of times, with how he makes his points but, a few million people do. I don't want those voices, represented by him, to be silenced because another segment of the population has decided that since they don't want to hear it, no one should hear it. It's counter-productive and anti-American.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

I agree with you in substance, but this petition isn't a legal action, like George W. initiated in Federal court to try and get websites critical of him shut down, it's more like a public opinion survey, and hardly in the same league with conservative efforts to defund and silence NPR, who have the arrogance to compete with good American corporate campaign donors by playing elitist classical music instead of good old hillbilly music which they only do on Saturdays.

And I have to laugh when you guys call NPR liberal, the local college station is somewhere to the Right of Limbaugh and has been since the Eighties.

If conservatives would back digital broadcasting instead of fighting it tooth and claw to their dying breath, Rush could have a whole station to himself 24 hours day, since the amount of available bandwidth would be vastly increased.

Of course then Corporate broadcasting would be forced to compete by upgrading the quality of their programming, and that would be (shudder) capitalism!

Well it seems this initiative has failed miserably…At least one advertiser is begging to be reinstated with Limbaugh…and he laughingly refused to take them back. Also another advertiser who pulled advertising has suffered a 12 percent drop in business because of anger from Limbaugh’s fans.

I think we are fooling ourselves if we think the backlash from his comments is hurting him…In fact his viewer ship has gone up.

Rush Tells Sleep Train "Go Back to Bed'

I wondered if he would stand up to some of the rats that desert (what they thought was) a sinking ship.

The link:

The rift between Sleep Train Mattress Centers and Rush Limbaugh apparently became permanent today after Limbaugh reportedly turned aside the Sacramento retailer's attempt at a truce.

Limbaugh rebuffed Sleep Train's request that the controversial radio host resume his duties as a paid spokesman for the company.

Sleep Train stopped advertising on Limbaugh's show after he called a law student advocating for birth control coverage at Georgetown University a "slut" and a "prostitute" over her stance on contraception. The retailer said it can't "condone such negative comments directed toward any person."

Limbaugh, through his spokesman Brian Glicklich, turned aside Sleep Train's attempts to resume advertising on the show.

"Unfortunately, your public comments were not well received by our audience, and did not accurately portray either Rush Limbaugh's character or the intent of his remarks. Thus, we regret to inform you that Rush will be unable to endorse Sleep Train in the Future."

Dale Carlsen, head of Sleep Train, issued a statement saying: "We confirm that Rush Limbaugh will no longer be one of Sleep Train's radio endorsers."

Peace and comfort,

Michael
