Which sin do you identify with most?


A good friend of mine and I were having a discussion about the 7 Deadly Sins and I thought it might make an interesting poll. Mine is Pride. More often then not, my pride has gotten me into trouble and gotten in my way. And although I have been working on it, there are still occasions when it rears it's ugly head.


Pride is excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.
Why you do it: Well-meaning elementary school teachers told you to "believe in yourself."
Your punishment in Hell will be: You'll be broken on the wheel.
Associated symbols: Pride is linked with the horse and the color violet.


Envy is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation.
Why you do it: Because other people are so much luckier, smarter, more attractive, and better than you.
Your punishment in Hell will be: You'll be put in freezing water.
Associated symbols: Envy is linked with the dog and the color green.


Gluttony is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.
Why you do it: Because you were weaned improperly as an infant.
Your punishment in Hell will be: You'll be force-fed rats, toads, and snakes.
Associated symbols: Gluttony is linked with the pig and the color orange.


Lust is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.
Why you do it: Oh, please.
Your punishment in Hell will be: You'll be smothered in fire and brimstone. Not kisses.
Associated symbols: Lust is linked with the cow and the color blue.


Wrath is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Anger.
Why you do it: You're wired for it. Also, the people around you are pretty damn irritating.
Your punishment in Hell will be: You'll be dismembered alive.
Associated symbols: Anger is linked with the bear and the color red.


Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness.
Why you do it: You live in possibly the most pampered, consumerist society since the Roman Empire.
Your punishment in Hell will be: You'll be boiled alive in oil. Bear in mind that it's the finest, most luxurious boiling oil that money can buy, but it's still boiling.
Associated symbols: Greed is linked with the frog and the color yellow.


Sloth is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work.
Why you do it: You're shiftless, lazy.
Your punishment in Hell will be: You'll be thrown into snake pits.
Associated symbols: Sloth is linked with the goat (or the goatfish, in the case of the Deadly Sins T-shirt) and the color light blue.

Status: offline 		That was a tough one because I have small bits from a few of those. I am lustful, envious, proud, slightly gluttonous and sometimes a little sloth-like. The one I am definitely not is wrathful. Guess I need to go to confession.

Status: offline 		I chose lust. It was close between that and gluttony. But hopefully i've pretty much conquered my gluttony this past year.

BTW i don't consider pride a sin, i think it's an asset.

Status: offline 		I would, I have no doubt, suffer an overabundance of wrath, greed, pride, lust, and envy, if it were not for one thing - I'm too damned lazy to be bothered with them! I have an almost zen-like detachment from material things because I can't be bothered to do the work nessesary to acquire the money I need to accumulate stuff. If it were not for my sloth, I would be a complete bastard, but instead, all my friends call me enlightened. Sweet! :)

Now if you posted this on a diet board i would guess gluttony might win out. And on an anger management board wrath would probably win.

Status: offline 		While my answer was Lust, I've definetly had some struggles with pride-too proud to be the first to apologize, envy-still working on that one, gluttony- the entire month of October I indulged in too much of everything!, I do get greedy, but not for material things- mainly I crave attention- and sloth, yeah...I get sloth like on occasion.

The one I don't identify with much is wrath; life is just too damn short to get caught up that way.

Status: offline 		I guess "wrath" (or better "anger") would be my achilles heel. Not that I am angry all the time (I am actually a very nice guy... really!) but rather a temper that sometimes causes problems for me. It is not the "OMG" type of temper (I have never even hurt a fly, well maybe a fly or two but nothing else) but rather the stupid kind that will make me kick the TV when I lose my patience. This usually will result in more damage so now instead of a small problem, I have an expensive problem. LOL

Status: offline 		I am most definately lustful, to a fault in the past. I've been a good girl as of late, but that doesn't mean that I haven't and the thoughts and desires, and it's desires that were described, not just actions. Being a Diagnosed Nymphomaniac is not always easy to supress. My therapist tells me that the chemical reactions in the brain of a nympho are almost exactly like those of a cocaine addict. If any of you know what it's like to be almost violent because you want/need sex so badly... That's not a good sign. :)

Anyhow, yeah, the point was lust. I'm guilty of lust.
