Because the writer feels that is every woman's fantasy probably. Or because Ana views him as the perfect guy: rich, handsome, own a business, but has this "dark side",lol.

From what I understand, that's not really how it went. She wrote the novel as fanfiction mostly for her own enjoyment, then redid it for publication once she realized that there was a market.

Read all three. I liked Christian though the writer could have done more with his character. Lots of things left hanging to the side that could have made him more interesting. Too much sex not enough D/s dynamic building. Ana? I really disliked this character. She's just very flat, repetitive and boring to be honest. Why the hell does she keep wearing the same plum dress that doesn't belong to her but her boyfriend buys her an R8? Seriously could she find nothing else to wear? And thank God the series ended because if the author used the words "mercurial, holy cow, give it to me, Ana" and had Ana act like a complete ass one more time, I would have had to vomit in the book.

FR - New Yorker Cartoon:

Man in doorway to woman on couch reading,

"Put down that sad soft porn for middle-aged women and come to bed."

I have high hopes for the Grey series. Bought other recommended books like Screw the Roses, I'll Take the Thorns which was squirreled away. The Greys are on the coffee table.

ETA: My actual thoughts. I felt the allure uses BDSM as a smut filler. Romance novels are built on two theories. 1) Wealth and luxury allows for otherwise impractical opportunities to have fun. 2) Some kind of smut is more fun than missionary. So I felt the BDSM elements were gimmicky.

Ya, that's how it went.

Any decent writer could have done more with any of the characters. James is not a good writer.

I did a lot of skimming.

I cannot understand how anyone can describe it as 'well-written'. How exactly?

There is a cheesy sort of charm to it and some catchiness -inner Goddess and all that - but I couldn't really read it. It is more of a book one skims. I found it really repetitive and cliched

Great answer and agree.

why do they even have to use class? who the hell really cares if one or the other is rich. It only adds to the fantasy of it I guess. But it never fails he is rich and she could care less about money.

Remember 'Dallas' on the telly? Tedious things become a lot more interesting, somehow, if everything's set against a background of piles of money. Or European titles of nobility, or preferably both.

Wuthering Heights for that matter, although he Lord of the manor and she loves him, Catherine passes Heathcliff over for Edgar because he was raised as a servant and lacks education.

It remains one of the more creative plays on the whole subject of sex and status.

Catherine Earnshaw: First introduced in Lockwood's discovery of her diary and etchings, Catherine's life is almost entirely detailed in the first volume. She seemingly suffers from a crisis of identity, unable to choose between nature and culture (and, by extension, Heathcliff and Edgar). Her decision to marry Edgar Linton over Heathcliff has been seen as a surrender to culture, and has implications for all the characters of Wuthering Heights. The character of Catherine has been analysed by many forms of literary criticism, including: psychoanalytic and feminist.[7]

From the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wuthering_HeightsWikipedia entry.

Culture tend to value wealth over love, so of course, it's optimal to have both.
