Hello Bill. Is there some reason you don't want to use a commercially-made product?

Hair removal creams/lotions contain precise amounts of certain chemicals not usually available (or advisable to sell to) the general public. They are buffered to be less irritating, scented to be less stinky (the active ingredient calcium thioglycolate, smells like rotten eggs) and contain additives that help protect skin while the hair itself is being dissolved.

If cost is a concern, you can buy hair removal creams at the dollar store.

I don't like using caustic or highly akaline substances on my skin or my partner's. Personally, I'm a great believer in epilators such as this.

Or waxing! Just make sure you exfoliate and moisturise.

i've never heard of anyone making their own hair removal cream. Given the smell I wouldn't want to, and it seems to me that I wouldn't want to test things on myself when it comes to using chemicals- I'd rather purchase something that's been shown to be effective and safe to use instead of going through the process of reinventing the wheel. Good luck on your quest for knowledge though.

I have not heard of it either, and I have been into herbs and aromatherapy and making home made cosmetics of one kind or another forever.

I most strongly suggest you not do this.

I'm not certain where you read that but traditionally, arab women went hairless because they plucked them out by hand.

Commercial products do burn. You might want to try waxing.

Look into sugaring instead. No burns and the hair does not come back in 4 to 6 weeks.

Google is your friend...

I settled on epilators too; having tried everything else but waxing. It's not for everyone though. I had to give up using it on my chest/stomach because the ingrown hairs were persisting (arms legs initially had issues but they went away); now I'm getting laser removal for there.

I never found a depilatory that could effective work against my hair so I don't have a high opinion of them, but my hair unnaturally coarse.

if you're getting that information from where I think you're getting it, it's a fictional story dude...meaning not real, fantasy, pretend.

If you try to make your own I can almost guarantee you'll end up burning worse than the cream you bought commercially. The chemicals are highly caustic.

Go with plucking, shaving or waxes of which there are different types.

Yup, sugaring....which is actually how Arabian women removed body hair.

DreamyLadySnow -> RE: Homemade Hair Removal Cream (4/1/2012 2:45:20 PM)

Arabian women have been using body sugaring for centuries. It's not imaginary. I buy the body sugar at the Arab grocery store. It's awesome, cheap and gentle.

No the sugaring isn't imaginary at all but the lotion is. There's a bdsm story that has been going around for a long time that many seem to come onto bdsm forums and somehow, someway they think the story is realistic.

It's basically a story about an man who kidnaps American men and women and sells them to Arab men for slavery. Basically the story goes that the slaves are removed of all hair permanently through this magical lotion and then they're pierced, branded, modified, etc...for the Arab men.

I've seen this story alluded to quite a few times on forums lol, and then people come on asking where they can buy it or something similar.

So I thought maybe he had read the story or someone told him about this magical lotion.

taking notes here...

I shaved my chest for the last play party and I'm going out of my mind this week from the itching.

You could have saved youself a lot of suffering if you had followed the instructions...by doing a test patch first.

Also, when Nair says it's not for use in the pubic zone, they mean it. I've used it for my legs and long long ago when I was young and stubborn, I tried it on my pubes. The hair didn't melt, lol. It stayed and stayed and so I gave it more and more time. Whatever time they told me to do it for, I doubled or tripled it. Verrrry bad idea.

At the base of each hair shaft, I had a large droplet of blood. When I washed off I was very sore, lol, cannot remember for how long, but I do remember that my hair stayed completely intact! Aargh!

The hair removal cream I buy is from the Dollar Tree and it works just fine for normal body hair. I'm sure it's not meant for facial or pubic hair.

Sometimes when we try to save money, we end up paying a lot more in the long run. Be careful with your skin. Use a Nair type product for most of it, and use an epilator or wax or that sugar several people were talking about. Be safe.

DreamyLadySnow -> RE: Homemade Hair Removal Cream (4/5/2012 5:51:22 PM)

littlewonder really? I never heard about that cream..Where do you get it? lol
If only...

graceadieu -> RE: Homemade Hair Removal Cream (4/7/2012 6:46:48 PM)

Yeah, really, Nair/Veet on your junk - not a good idea! I used to use it on my bikini line (which I think it's supposed to be ok for), and it worked ok until one time when I tried to use it all over and got it on my clit by accident. OWWWWW. I washed it off right away but it still hurt for days. [:(]
