chelita30 -> 100% Genuine (4/7/2012 4:44:19 AM)

Why does every other profile on here say "I am 100% genuine"? What does that even mean? I checked it out online:

adjective
1.
possessing the claimed or attributed character, quality, ororigin; not counterfeit; authentic; real: genuine sympathy; agenuine antique.
2.
properly so called: a genuine case of smallpox.
3.
free from pretense, affectation, or hypocrisy; sincere: agenuine person.
4.
descended from the original stock; pure in breed: a genuineCeltic people.

Number 4 is (hopefully) not relevant to our question, number 2 suggests that something is either genuine or not therefore percentages would be irrelevant to that definition. That leaves two possibilities for '100% genuine' but can any of us truly claim to be 100% free from pretense, affectation or hypocrisy. Why does nobody write 'I am 100% sincere'? It is definition number 1 that concerns me most. On that basis a Dom who claims to be 100% genuine is basically saying that they possess 100% of the authentic character traits and qualities of a Dom, which is my humble opinion is an arrogant and misplaced claim. There is no set 'genuine' Dom mould!

Perhaps I am reading too much into all of this and Doms just mean to say that they are real i.e. Dominant men seeking submissive females for whatever purposes their profile states. However, it seems a rather redundant statement given that 'fakes' (whatever they are) are unlikely to advertise themselves as '50% genuine' or '100% HNG' and much more likely to make wild claims like 'I am a Dom with 50 years experience in bdsm, I have a herd of naked slave girls and am 100% genuine'.

So, in the interests of clarity, here are some suggestions for those of you who have used the phrase '100% genuine' on your profiles:

For meaning number 1, list some of your character traits and qualities and demonstrate your experience by writing about some of the things you have learned on your journey so far

For meaning number 2, simply use the phrase 'I am a Dom/sub/switch etc'

For meaning number 3, Use the word sincere if you have to but try to show it by opening up a little and making an attempt to get your personality across in your profile.

FR

The Internet is full of wankers. Genuine wankers.

but are they 100% genuine wankers?

You have to look for a certificate. Just like when you buy silver, you are often being sold on 99.something %, it's almost impossible for anything to be 100%, outside contaminants make it very difficult to refine out the last few tenths of decency.

Edited for a bad spelling mistake.

RedMagic1 -> RE: 100% Genuine (4/7/2012 5:01:34 AM)

When I was deciding what to "brand myself with" on the forum, it was a tossup between "Horny Net Geek," or "Fake Dom," because I got sick of seeing threads from submissive women asking things like, "How can I tell if he is real dom?" So, nice rant[;)], but male doms shouldn't take all the blame for this; female subs are exerting competitive pressure for men to preen their realness plumage on this site.

I have to say, though, I think the dom men who meet the most women on this site, don't much care about what sub women think they want. It's more: "This is me. I'm interesting, I'm safe, and if you give me what I want, I can give you what you need."

That's an interesting perspective, I hadn't thought of it that way before.

To the OP:

You missed the point. The correct definition is, in fact, no 4. If you ain't a genuine Celt....

More seriously however, I think you are reading too much into it. It's just another way of saying "I'm real". You wouldn't expect me to put "I'm 50% real" would you?. Last but not least, thanks for the suggestions, but I'm 100% happy with my profile as it is, thanks.

TheDarkSaint -> RE: 100% Genuine (4/7/2012 7:59:43 AM)

It's been my experience (for what it's worth) that those who feel the need to try to convince (I'm 100% real) are those that probably are not truly what they are trying to profess to be. Thus the need to try and convince.

Just like a child would add an exclamation to try to drive home a point. "I didn't put the cat in the microwave Dad... HONEST!!!"

tsatske -> RE: 100% Genuine (4/7/2012 8:10:46 AM)

Before one of my children decided to become one, I didn't really believe in '2nd generation BDSM'. Now that I have one, I would have to say, my son qualifies as '100% real' under the last definition [&:]

When we make that stament gender-free, it works very well.  Thanks, RedMagic1.  I might just have to copy that into my profile.

I have to say, though, I think the D-types who meet the most s-types on this site, don't much care about what the s-types think they want. It's more: "This is me. I'm interesting, I'm safe, and if you give me what I want, I can give you what you need."

I'm only 33% genuine.

Well, I'll continue the flattery.  I think you've come DAMN close to the definition of a "Twue" D-type.  Stripping your statement down any further looses the essence, but rest assured that I've been "working" on getting that germ of an idea into a "definition" form.

"Why all the work, Lance?" you ask.

SO THAT WE CAN ALL SAVE HUNDREDS OF KEYSTROKES! LOL!

Alecta -> RE: 100% Genuine (4/7/2012 1:48:41 PM)

I was just going to say "100% genuine leather" but on second thoughts, even that is a lie on most part. At least 2% of any article of leather clothing is comprised of some variety of non-leather fastening, for example.

Well yes. But to be fair, that IS the human mating game.

"I'm interesting , I'm safe and if you give me what i want, i'll give you what you want" (paraphrased because i have a short memory) might well be the Statement of the Year. It pretty much says all I would need to know about someone. Of course, I wouldn't want the person to be too safe.................
