This was a cute expression that somebody brought up during a wax discussion.  I'm just stealing it for a title.

As many folks know, I happen to enjoy playing with wax.  Paraffin wax, to be precise.  So far, not a bad thing, right?

Now, I do happen to have a paraffin pot.  It's convenient for when you want to melt a lot of wax.  Unfortunately, if you do your wax play from a paraffin pot, you are stuck with one color.  Usually clear.  If you mix an actual color in your paraffin pot, not only are you still stuck with one color, but then you have to clean the damn pot before you make another color.  One color is not enough fun, ok?

There is always the option of jars (glass) so that you can have a variety of colors.  This isn't a bad option if you are going to play at home.  You can either light the wick directly, which can tend to make the wick put itself out as you are tipping the jar to pour the wax.  The other option is to use another heat source, (like a crock pot) to melt the wax, which means dripping stuff that you didn't intend to from the water, the jars get hot, and can be a pain in the tail for the wax top.  If you don't play at home, this means you have to listen to glass jars clank around as you get to your play destination, you have to bring the pot, towels, and a bunch of other crap that makes you feel like it was required to travel with your whole kitchen just to do some wax play.  Too much hassle!

What's left?  Make the damn candles in a variety of colors, because that was the point, the rainbow, right?  Light colors, dark colors, clear if you want to do a base to make some kind of artistic creation.  Red, blue, yellow, purple........

Do any of you have any idea just how much mess I have made in My dang house just because I thought "taste the rainbow" was such a cute little idea??????

Candles, colors, wax play, cleaning the mess.  Discuss.

~laughs~. OK, so I have figured out that I'm kinky. But ... You know ... I can't help feel relieved that my "kink" appears to not require covering my house in wax.

I haven't had the opportunity to play with wax but it's certainly something I look forward to trying! Wax play definitely appeals to my creative side. I do sometimes look at the candles for wax play that are for sale and have a lot of trouble deciding which colours to buy or what colours I'd like used together.

I don't know if you know this, but Party Lite candles, though a little more expensive, burn cool enough for wax play. All the colors. Even black. It's worth finding a party lite dealer for, IMHO

Three words: Candle making supplier.

A good supplier will have special tongs designed to hold a freshly-poured (i.e. HOT) votive candle. You squeeze to open them and, when you relax your grip, they hold the glass jar securely. No singing of your fingers.

Also, if you're making your own votive candles, you need a wick specifically designed for them. There's more than one type of wick and, if you get the wrong type, the candle goes out when you tilt to pour. If you want to get really creative, try making rolled or twisted candles from two colors like this one:

(This one is beeswax but you can do something similar with paraffin.)

I would just like to say how happy I am to see so many threads on the front page that are about actual concrete BDSM skils and experiences. This is great.

I have no experience or knowledge to help you in your quest for more colors,
but this post reminded me how much I used to love burning crayons and letting
them drip over empty bottles. I was so fascinated by the beauty I could create.
So thank you for letting me taste the joy of that rainbow again.

This is why you lay down a tarp before beginning any such play or melting of wax lol.

For cleaning the mess I've heard of a few things - at a demo one person suggested covering the area you're playing on with clingfilm.

The sensation is lessened and you don't get the fun of scraping it off the sub but you can just pull up the clingfilm and throw it away.

Another suggestion I've heard is oilcloth, primarily designed for tablecloths it is apparently very easy to clean wax off of.

Taste the rainbow

I probably saw this on here first, and it is kinda on topic.

Plus, it makes me giggle!

A local guy used to make candles for sale in these little glass pitchers...so the wax poured off without messing with the wick!

And "wax on whip off" = biggest mess ever ever. Ever! Trust me. That is an OUTSIDE scene!!

I think we used some of those and there were great fun. My ex used to buy "jesus candles". Well that's what she called them. We found them in dollar stores and they were in a jar with religious pictures on them. Not to hot to cause any damage, but hot enough to make me squirm, especially if she hit the belly button.

When I visited a dungeon in Memphis a wonderful Domme waxed me using a crock pot. She covered my whole body with it. That was more relaxing but still fun.

But you definitely have to watch what kind of wax you use. Another friend and I were looking at candles she had for passover. One drop on my arm was enough to tell that these were not for play. In fact I still have the scar from it.

Now I am thinking about maybe using a crock pot full of clear and some candles on the side to add color.

I had someone scrape it off with a knife once. Nothing like adding a little knife play to make things interesting.
