One good way to "dial down" the intensity without sacrificing the full force is to mentally "meet the Dom halfway" during the hair pulling. First, yes, braiding or tying the hair back is good. A braid is best because it weaves the hair around and around and prevents any one patch or strand from getting the worst of the tension during a pull. Frequently shifting ther direction of the pull is another technique. Up, down, left, right, diagonal, etc, gently have your Top shift the direction (WITHOUT yanking the head!) Also, while your Top pulls firmly, but not violently, you concentrate on the sensations. Instead of eagerly anticipating that hard violent yank, think of how it feels *right now* even gently... Go into the sensations and you may well find that "less is more" which will prevent damage and lumps later on. Take a good anti-inflammatory (Tylenol or whatever) about 45 minutes before a scene WITH a small meal, a muffin, etc, (not on an empty stomach, NSAIDS can tear you up if you don't take them with food) and that should ease the headaches. Try to divert some of the action into verbal play. Your Top could use words like "I will yank you baldheaded, Bitch!" and "I have you by the hair, you little slut! What if I pulled it *all* out?!" or what have you, using words to keep you focused on what's happening. Gentler action, fiercer words and your own mental focus on the sensations should make a gentler scene hotter. Whatever you do, do NOT allow your head to be forciply yanked, jerked, your neck hyperextended, etc as these can cause concussions (rebound injuries to the brain) and small cervical fractures. Shaken-baby syndrome can affect adults too. Lady Sonelle
