I have to second that one, Peon.

I use it every night, so I don't even think about it anymore.

I disagree that it needs to be far out, so long as it can keep your mind fully occupied.

Sidebar: daydreaming as a bridge to sleep also put a stop to my hypnagogic hallucinations during the transition.

Likewise. I send myself to sleep the same way every time, now, without even thinking about it. It's great for long, boring train journeys. I think you're right: the point is to keep your mind occupied - if more mundane fantasies work, then fine.

People have objected that if they were to do this, though, they'd get too excited and it'd have the reverse effect. But, for some reason, it never works that way for me.

You know if you are so exhausted that you are afraid of keeling over, sex or masturbation is the LAST thing on your mind, if women are under a lot of stress sex is the last thing on their mind, and the person who suggested it is habitually offensive...

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Not being able to sleep (5/23/2012 11:15:47 PM)

I also find that it masturbation energizes me, which is not the desired effect.

The 'daydreaming', yes, I do that all the time.

Why on earth do people feel it acceptable to say things on the net that they would know were not appropriate in face to face conversation.

In all fairness, I've made that precise suggestion face to face, albeit more carefully couched.

I simply assumed she'd already tried getting off, or it would've been mentioned earlier. Cuz, let's face it, that's as natural as a remedy can ever get, and we're all adults on a forum for kinksters. While I haven't made a survey, the women I've asked about it have reported transient fatigue and relaxation after orgasm, both of which are conducive to sleep. Most of the guys I've asked report using it consciously for the purpose of sleep, and many have made it part of their sleep routine, particularly when they're single. However, it's also a very mild effect, for either gender, so it's not likely to be sufficient if one has a bout of persistent insomnia.

I'd say it's mostly a question of him being insensitive in his wording, and if anyone disagrees with that, I'd love to hear why.

IWYW,
- Aswad.

You know, this is one of those things where I actually perceive a gender difference. Most men want to fall asleep right after sex; most women do not. And while there are exceptions to everything (I've certainly been with men who were extremely chatty after sex), I do believe this to be the norm. So while men, I'm sure, use masturbation as a sleep technique, I'm hard pressed to say that I know many women who do. It takes many women some time to wind down after sex. With that said, if one is feeling sexually frustrated for some reason, masturbating can take away that frustration, making it more likely that one can get on with whatever one needs to do. But again, I somehow doubt that the OP is lying awake at night due to sexual frustration. Just a hunch, but....yeah....

Your hunch is quite correct... Though I must say, things are A LOT better since I get the odd time off and can meet up with friends...

Nein. For some reason, it doesn't work that way for me. The sexual fantasies I have - use- are too floaty and far out. I get a warm stirring, but no more. Likewise the Japanese woman who first taught me the trick.

LadyConstanze -> RE: Not being able to sleep (5/24/2012 8:25:23 PM)

Well, good for you and the woman, though seriously, when worried that a friend might have to go to the hospital at any minute, sexy thoughts are the furthest thing that is on my mind....

littlewonder -> RE: Not being able to sleep (5/24/2012 10:05:19 PM)

Well I've found one thing so far that has made me exhausted as of last week....the antibiotic cipro lol. Master thinks it's funny because I've take the strongest sleeping pills known to man and nothing, nada. But give me a cipro pill and I'm yawning all day and wanting to do nothing but sleep lol. Weird.

LadyConstanze -> RE: Not being able to sleep (5/24/2012 10:50:40 PM)

Seriously, if you do have weird reactions to drugs, get your thyroid triple checked, I don't do any recreational drugs (my mind is weird enough as it is) drink very little as I have a low booze tolerance (and when I just go a bit over it, I end up using the big white porcelain phone to call god and tell him/her i am dying), but the dentist can sort of shoot me up to high heaven without any reaction or numbness, if it comes it's very delayed, other stuff which should have minimal drowsiness just knocks me flat out, apparently typical for thyroid imbalance

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Not being able to sleep (5/24/2012 11:00:35 PM)

Cipro knocks me flat, I am allergic to most antibiotics. The sleeping pill reaction she's having, I agree, could be thyroid.

Join the club, I tend to swell up like a balloon so unless I really do need antibiotics seriously, my docs don't even suggest them, as we don't want to build up immunity to the few I can take (not uncommon in people with thyroid problems to be mildly to severely intolerant to antibiotics or suffer odd side effects).

My old German dentist was actually the first to mention the thyroid/drug reaction thing, said whenever he encountered people with weird problems they had thyroid surgery, were on thyroid meds, or when checked for thyroid showed an imbalance... Wish they would do more studies on this but there isn't a lot of profit in thyroid meds...

You know since I am in LA I had to reduce my thyroid meds (which also helped with my sleep problem) being near the sea and getting lots of sun seems to have an amazing effect, but thyroid imbalances change the way the body metabolizes various things.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Not being able to sleep (5/24/2012 11:20:08 PM)

The endocrine system is really complex, and so many people don't seek specialized help, they just truat an internist who may or may not know the latest.

I'm open to the idea that I have a non-representative sample. After all, I don't want to fall asleep after sex, and have needed time to wind down ever since I started working on letting go more during orgasm, whereas Ars is usually dead tired right away and needs time to wind up again, which fits with a number of other women I've talked to. Perhaps it's simply a very individual thing.

Are you a natural redhead?

If you are then the reason why you might have issues is because of the MC1R gene:

LadyConstanze -> RE: Not being able to sleep (5/25/2012 6:23:35 PM)

I know, but honestly, after the thyroid surgery it got a lot worse and odder... So I am fairly certain it has a lot to do with it, but yes, the hair (I prefer auburn, trying to fool myself and all that) oddly enough I seem to have a really high pain tolerance, to the point that a few times I had a really bad cut and twice I only noticed it because I was standing in something sticky and when I need stitches, the injection scares me more than the doc stapling or suturing, they always think I'm a bit strange but it makes sense to me, it's seriously only the dentist thing that freaks me out, as a child it was a slight problem, then I had the thyroid surgery and it became a BIG problem...

Well fuck me running. That explains so much about me! I swear, when I get the guts to go back to my sadistic dentist, I am printing that!

We tend to have higher pain tolerances with some things but our responses to local anesthetics and many narcotic pain relievers are atypical.

No kidding, anything slightly morphine based knocks me out flat, I usually take 1/4th of the recommended dose and I'm in a daze (I guess I would be a cheap junkie - bad joke, I know), but other stuff just has no affect on me, I recall the dentist shooting me up with novocain, parts of my face went numb but not the place where he injected, afterwards I was so hyper and wound up and then blood pressure dropped and I fell asleep on public transportation, kinda interesting waking up and realizing instead of being in Munich, you're in Salzburg (Austria)
