Biden isn't always cool on this controversial stuff.. Sometimes they differ a little ....

Interestingly, though, I never heard anyone voice their concern about the government's role in marriage until gay marriage became a possibility. Of course, that could be a coincidence.

AIN'T IT AMAZING? I had to go through a fucking wild custody battle 6 years ago when this was a small item on the radar screen and that 'keep govt out of marriage mantra' became a huge deal with the average John McLaughlin groupie... I sure coulda used that ... would have been able to just leave the state with my kids safely under my wing and 100k richer, at least.

I can't make up my mind if they say it cause it sounds cool, or if they actually understand the implied double standard.
I'll tell ya one thing. If gay people score marital rights in all 50 states, THEY EARNED IT!

Obama coming out in favor of gay marriage, now that's a vote getter for sure.

I know this may have been a joke, but I think you're right. Support for gay marriage probably will cost Obama some votes.

Earlier today, I found myself thinking of how LBJ said "We've lost the South for a generation" when he signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. I hope Obama's fallout won't be quite that dire, but I'm sure it will come.

It might cost him some of the voters like the ones who elected him in CA but still voted against same sex marriage. But I think there are a lot of republicans on the edge who are for same sex marriage who will see him in a better light because of it. Then there are the log cabin repubs who, according to the thread I just read, are not happy with Romney and might be swayed by this. I think the timing is suspicious and it sounds to me like he is saying this because of the upcoming election. He has been in power for over 3 years now and never brought it up before. Now he thinks it should be up to the states to work out. Maybe because he thinks they did such a stand up job on civil rights.

I'm dubious that any voters opposed to gay marriage were very likely to be voting for a Kenyan democrat in the first place.

I would agree with that if they hadn't voted against same sex marriage in the same election that they elected him president in CA last time. Seems to me like a lot of democrats came out to vote in that one and they still shot the marriage part down.
