hi :)   i was just wondering if anyone could give me a little advice on suturing... i'm thinking about getting my labia majora lips sewn together, and i was looking for advice on threading, needle sizes, the best stitching patterns, and any possible problems that could occur.

I'm just getting acquainted with different terminology, never heard of suturing outside of what medical professionals do to patients. 

In play, is this meant to be just for a short time, then the threads are cut and you're reopened?  Or is the purpose to have you closed up for long periods of time, or even permanently?

i mean very temporarily, for the duration of the scene, maybe 15 mins at the longest... i need that area accessible ande i dont want to do any damage... i'm just looking for some advice before i make up my mind if i want to try it.... and  i have a nurse to do it

Hope you've picked someone w/ actual training & experience AND sterile suture material (not a needle & thread from the fabric store). And, I'd hope whoever is doing it will use proper sterile procedure.  If not ... I can only suggest you avoid it ... or ... wish you the best of luck.  It would be irresponsible of me to give any instructions on proper suturing techniques on this forum ... or via other private mail to untrained professionals.

my top is a registered nurse... all equip will be appropriate if i decide to go through with it... i just want to get some feedback before i make up my mind if i am going to go through with it.

The only time i have seen this done, the submissive already had multiple piercings in the labia which were removed for the suturing and then the piercing holes were used. Doing it that way was fairly safe and not too painful.

Is there any way that your nurse friend could get the info from a doctor she works with?  Could be tricky but she may be able to play it off as just curiosity [:-]

If your nurse isn't familiar with sutring material, needle sizes and so on, I personally would not want her doing this to me.
I am a nurse and have been for 29 years, but I have never sutred anyone. Most nurses haven't.
You may want to seek out someone with experience in this.

I'm a nurse, with experience in suturing, under the watchful gaze of a physician.  In my area, at my level of nursing, the State Board holds that the "Placing and/or removal of sutures is beyond the scope of practice..."  Hence, I would not venture into that realm unless I had a physician watching over what I was doing.  In California, emergency room Nurse Practitioners are the only nurses that suture.  I know of none of them, kink-friendly or not, who will do any kind of skin puncturing kink.  A group of which I was a member before going to to nursing school invited Ron Athey the performance artist to perform once.  When it came time to infuse his scrotum with normal saline, many people moved to the back.  When a 50 cc syringe of blood was drawn, many moved toward the door.  When that blood was squirted into Ron's mouth, for him to swallow, every medical person in the room left.  There are some things that they would not witness, because out here, they said, their licenses were at risk.  I don't know if that is true or not, but one doctor and 3 nurses independently said that it was the case, so I had no reason to doubt the veracity of statement.  <shrug>  other people's mileage may vary, and probably does.

To do something outside one's scope of practice is to risk one's license.  That holds whether or not one is "on duty" or or off, being paid or not, in or outside the line duty.  In California, at least, a RN can work as a Licensed Vocational (Practical) Nurse and even as a Certified Nursing Assistant, for the lower pay, but the kicker is that the RN is held to RN Standards of Care by the state board even if working in these lesser pay grades, or as a volunteer in organized or unorganized activities.

My personal feeling is that it is a foolish nurse to risk licensure in this manner.  Then again, it has been pointed out to me that I don't know everything. <shrug>  Do what you will do, but be careful while doing what you will do.  Be safe and sane.

Free advice: worth at least as much as you pay for it: Here is mine:
It is important to know the type of insomnia and to rule out medical causes, such as sleep apnea, thyroid and neurological disturbances/imbalances (etc). Nearly every major city has sleep centers which specialize in the study, diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders.
The more you know about the causes (or likely causes) of sleeplessness for you, the more sense you can make of the many interventions available
A detailed medical history including lifestyle habits (details of diet, exercise, bedtime – not necessarily bondage or BDSM details) are sometimes enough for a sleep specialist to tailor interventions specific to your details and needs. Despite the best intentions of well wishing posters (myself included) trying random suggestions culled from what works for others and does you no harm is not often useful. (Many sleep centers or clinics have low fee programs and often insurance coverage is useful in payment for diagnostic tests. ) Best wishes and the blessings of a good sleep when you want to sleep. Glad that came from a nurse!  But it's very true ... RNs & LVNs don't do suturing (w/ the possible exception of military RNs with field experience). Anyone who doesn't know sizes of needles or what suture to use, doesn't know what s/he is doing ... and is further evidence that s/he doesn't even work around suturing (any OR RN would know lots about sutures & needles).

Out of curiosity, what are the dangers?  Is a needle used for suturing large, and would make large holes?  Do labia tend to not heal well?  Too much risk of infection?

i wouldnt do it if she didnt know what she was doing. i just wanted to see what other information was out there, play experiences and the like, and see if anyone brought anything up that i hadnt considered, or had any information relevant to play that maybe a health profession perpective wouldnt. i enjoy seeking out some information on my own, and since i've only approached her about it recently, its not a concrete plan, i just wanted to do a little research. thankyou everyone who has contributed

There's probably info on sites for extreme body modification.  A friend of mine showed me one once with a lace up corset that's actually done to the flesh, so I'm pretty sure that running threads through the labia is plenty safe in comparison to what some are doing, and somehow surviving through.  Sorry, sorta sarcastic, I'm just disappointed that nobody offered anything to help you do this [>:]

If I can skim my History and find that site, I'll be sure to post it.  In the meantime, Googling extreme body mods should help...it had something with "zine" in the title, I remember that much.  Happy searching [:D]

Also, some piercing/tattoo parlors have a big book that's like an encyclopedia of body mods, if you find one that does, make sure you have a strong constitution before you go into it because it does contain some extreme mods. If I can remember what it's called I'll post it.

I found the book.. it's called "Modcon" apparently you can pick it up off bmezine (I'm told).. it includes some severe (surgical genital modification, amputation) mods and some not-so severe. Like I said, make sure you've the stomach for it, but it's actually REALLY interesting (maybe I'm sick like that but I like seeing what the human body will tolerate and what people are willing to go through)

Thank you, i'll be sure to check it out, and i'll let you know how it went too when i get around to it. Exams this weeks so unfortunately play has to wait; i cant afford to blow my mind beyond the point where i can study.

Wow, freakish!  I'd gone away for a few days and the vacation drained my brain, sorry hun I completely forgot to check back to this thread and skim my history for the site.  The freakish part is I *just* posted it today in a whole thread all by itself after seeing people talking about the diff types of genital piercings for women...even that wasn't enough to remind me of this, sorry [:(]

Luckily though, Nymph knew exactly the site I was talking about, thanks tons for posting it Nymph [:D][:D]

That site should be helpful, and I may be twisted too because now I'm dying to get a copy of that Modcon book so I can have a look.
