OneTimePad -> 24 Hours as a Fake Domme (5/25/2012 3:09:29 PM)

The Experiment
"Don't waste My time! Prove your sincerity! You must provide tribute or your message will be deleted unread! Don't expect My attention if you are not generous! I am a Dominant Goddess yadda, yadda, yadda ..."

This sort of profile is very common and I wanted to see if anyone actually goes for it. I copied the pics and profile of a suitably mouthy example and created an Amazon wish list for my new fake profile (giving her a new name and placing her across the country, of course) and waited for the results.

The wish list had paperbacks, lingerie, shoes, soaps, and an iPod, giving a good mix of choices. The pics were of a sexy, 40-some redhead in fetish gear. The text went like this:

The Profile
Now taking applications for potential slaves.
Applicants who do not provide Me with a gift will not be considered.
This is your first test as a potential slave, do not fail.

I offer to you, the opportunity to show Me how sincere you truly are.
Beg Me to choose you as the lucky slave allowed the privilege of serving Me.

You may begin by selecting a gift from My wish list that you feel will reflect your desire to serve and your possible worthiness.
With that in mind, choose carefully potential slave!

MsXXXXX's wish list: http://amzn.com/w/xxxxxxxxx

Once your offering has been sent and meets with My approval, you will be contacted with further instructions.

For now, your instructions are as follows:
1. select a gift from My wish list
2. send the selected tribute to Me
3. send a follow up email that will ONLY say "my first task has been completed Mistress" say NOTHING further! Await further instructions from Me!

All other emails will be promptly deleted!

The Results
It only took 24 hours for someone to buy the fake profile a present. I was surprised it happened that quickly but someone bought a $20 negligee off the Amazon list and sent the required follow up email. Having answered my original question, I took the profile down at that point. (The fake profile had a fake address so his gift'll get returned as undeliverable and he'll get credited.)

The profile actually got a lot of attention in those 24 hours. The most clever reply tried to start up a conversation without actually following the instructions by claiming the wish list wouldn't open. The other responses were just a sentence or two and fell into a few categories, here's the complete breakdown:

Time range: 24 hours from May 19-20.

Viewers: 71 (only logged in viewers are recorded so actual views were much higher)
Admirers: 4
Friend Requests: 2

Messages: 20 total
Complimenting either the pics or the items in the wish list: 6
Making a kinky proposition of some sort: 5
Denouncing the profile as a scam: 3
Saying "Hi": 2
Claiming to have followed instructions without buying anything: 1
Other clearly fake Domme asking how it's going: 1
Claiming wish list wouldn't open: 1
Actually following the instructions: 1

So, in conclusion, no wonder there are so many profiles like this. A longer trial would be interesting: Would the 1 gift per day rate continue? Would anyone make a grand gesture and buy the iPod? Expanding the experiment to have the fake profile interact with people would be (weird|creepy|fascinating|hilarious) also but I will definitely leave that to a more dedicated investigator.

Well, lets see you in the negligee....

kalikshama -> RE: 24 Hours as a Fake Domme (5/25/2012 3:13:45 PM)

I agree with your conclusion. Did you end up telling the man who bought the lingerie that it was only an experiment?

PeonForHer -> RE: 24 Hours as a Fake Domme (5/25/2012 3:43:00 PM)

Interesting. No surprise, I'm afraid, that someone would front you a negligee that quickly. There are a *lot* of sub male loons out there. Well done for giving that experiment a whirl!

You know what I think would be fun? A sub-males' fake Femdom profile competition. I'm pretty convinced I could do a really red hot one. As a sub male myself, I know what presses those sub-male buttons, oh yes indeedy. Very young, bad-tempered looking woman wearing too much make up and claiming to be turned on by anything and everything unpleasant. A bit of Female Supremacy drivel dressed up as philosophy would be the icing on the cake. (Most male subs think Female Supremacy is bollocks, of course, but it *does* turn a lot of them on that their target domme believes in it.)

Another experiment I've thought of doing: using this forum to ask exactly the same questions and make the same comments, with two profiles whose contents are the same (though with different writing styles) but - and here's the clincher - one bloke would be an ugly bastard, the other would be Mr Handsome.

However that latter experiment would obviously be a waste of time because both fake blokes would be treated exactly the same way by all the women, on account of women take a holistic view and are interested in deeper things like personality, sensitive nostrils, thoughtful forehead, spirituality, cuddles 'n' walks in the country, etc, etc, etc, when it comes to picking bonk-partners.

Once upon a time, when the Internet was new ... before cell phones, wireless, Face book and all … someone made a Mint on this scam!

Now, I think the profits continue to roll in, because that person is selling the scam to numerous suckers who pay to learn how to post a profile, and make a profit! ROFL …

It is ubiquitous! Outside of a “new” guy, the only way it works is if “she” sends a phone number, and actually talks to you on it. Then it has some chance of success; although it usually is a man/woman team working a con.

We discussed this several years ago, on one or two threads. Forgot the names, otherwise I would post them.

BTW, I posted a fake Domme profile back then, too! ROFL

Just downloaded a picture from a “girly” magazine; ROFL ROFL

Even Dommie Guy “hit” on me then! ROFL

He who posts the Hottest Picture .... Wins! [:D]

(Now where the heck did i put her phone number? ROFL)

She would be a REAL contender! [;)]

SoulAlloy -> RE: 24 Hours as a Fake Domme (5/25/2012 4:20:37 PM)

Personally I dislike dishonesty in any shape or form.

Granted someone was stupid enough to buy it. They took the profile at face value and fell for the fantasy.

You've technically defrauded amazon too (ok so probably only the cost of sending one parcel...peanuts overall)

So other people do this, and who knows? Perhaps you've just inspired more...

Lockit -> RE: 24 Hours as a Fake Domme (5/25/2012 4:46:49 PM)

What does a domina have to do to get a Starbucks delivery? Hum? Or maybe... some vines in my yard, cut down or back. While we're at it, you will love my book, even if its a chick book and you will take care of all things while I write and will love to spend the night... every night.

I'm sorry I can't provide a link for that.

Can you all work out how I can get that and maybe... a bit more?

Creative lil suckers... help a domina out here. [;)]

LadyPact -> RE: 24 Hours as a Fake Domme (5/25/2012 4:54:53 PM)

I'm not sure that I understand the point of the thread.  As seekingO2 said, a few of us have seen what it is like for those on the other side of the fence.  A couple of years back, peon got his glimpse of how the email thing works out when I agreed to do the same.  (Neither of us did the "buy gifts" angle.)  I didn't even count views because there were too many of them to keep up with, but I also didn't restrict mail contacts.  My numbers on that were higher than yours, OP, but I created a social, rather than professional profile.

PeonForHer -> RE: 24 Hours as a Fake Domme (5/25/2012 4:56:41 PM)

I agree that dishonesty is reprehensible in any shape or form. Yet, with the Internet, we might as well accept that it's here to stay.

Also, I see *so* many arguments on these forums between submales and femdoms that, to me, boil down to the fact that the one side has bugger all understanding of what it's like to live on the other side. Femdoms so often seem to be forced to live in some hideous, cold world, inundated as they are by messages from 'do-me' fantasist males who have forgotten - if they ever knew - how to treat women as people. Sub-males, on the other hand, start out feeling like scum because they're submissive - therefore by definition unmanly - and have it confirmed when they come to CM by the fact that CM's personal adverts are replete with demands that they, in effect, should 'pay for being perverts and failures as real men'. (Good pro-dommes will understand that should they come across it; the fakers won't, nor will they even care. The latter do more damage than I see acknowledged, here.)

Underneath all of this dreary misery is an age-old problem, so far as I can see. It's only partially to do with being either a femdom or a malesub. It's got mostly to do with not understanding even the simplest things about being a member of the opposite sex.

Well, the disadvantage of the Internet, with all its lies and bullshit, can be turned to advantage. On the net, you can 'be' someone else, including someone of the opposite sex. Used intelligently, it can be quite a learning experience. Used responsibly, I think it's possible to do little or no harm in the process. You can end up re-confirming to yourself what you originally believed: that men are here to look after women, and women are here to look after men. It feels good to have that re-confirmed, that I do know.

DrkOne -> RE: 24 Hours as a Fake Domme (5/25/2012 5:04:26 PM)

Truth is, anybody can type anything upload any picture say anything and be lying thru their teeth (if they have any). And this site is chock full of village idiots that do just that. What a waste of oxygen

You never know how that's going to go over: will he appreciate the honesty or will he get angry and go on a vindictive crusade? I decided it was best to just not say anything.

There's a fair point in there. Someone has to pay for shipping the gift back and forth. I can argue there was a greater good served here but I don't really know that. By what legitimacy do I assign myself that role, anyway?

If you'll excuse me, I need to go reread my copy of Crime and Punishment ...

PeonForHer -> RE: 24 Hours as a Fake Domme (5/25/2012 5:59:48 PM)

FR

I look quite good in lacy lingerie, though I say it myself. The pants don't hold in my wedding tackle all that well, admittedly, but I just kind of squidge the old fruit 'n' veg backwards towards my anus, and I can walk fairly comfortably as a result - though not too quickly, or it chaffs. No worries otherwise.

I hope that helps.

MistressDarkArt -> RE: 24 Hours as a Fake Domme (5/25/2012 6:14:27 PM)

I did a similar experiment with the Domme4Dumbass profile, except I called myself out as completely fake from the first line and did not offer a way to tribute or send gifts. Almost instantly people wrote asking where they should send money; I told them if they really wanted to please me to make a donation to Kiva, their local food bank, and/or local humane society and show me the proof. No one did; several prior kiss-asses replied abusively at the suggestion...what a b*tch and a c*nt, how DARE I ruin it for them!!

The point was: most folks answered without even reading the profile which clearly states the whole thing is fake. They just looked at the picture which was quite believable and nothing special, and went with it. They were TRULY dumbasses. VERY few got the joke (those who did got a reply and we enjoyed a good laugh).

Big red letters all over the place, folks...DO NOT SEND MONEY TO ANYONE FOR ANY REASON!

That's funny, I just spent 24 hours as a fake submissive and the only thing I did was buy a cheap $20 negligee off an Amazon list for some red head.

Zensualista -> RE: 24 Hours as a Fake Domme (5/25/2012 7:58:30 PM)

A $20 negligee? That's scary!

Did you get a fake spanking for buying that awful nylon thing?

I keep getting mails offering to buy me stuff, despite saying that I really don't want it, wouldn't give my address to a stranger and it would make me uncomfy receiving gifts from somebody, I'd be very pleased if they'd give the money to a shelter or another charity, of course I still get idiots asking me what they can give me as a present...

Sometimes I am seriously tempted to look up the PP account of some charity and just give that to them, I'd be doing 2 good deeds at once, helping an idiot who wants to throw his money away to get rid of it and directing it to a good cause...
