LaMalinche -> I am curious . . . (6/6/2006 3:43:10 PM)

Okay so I know that the whole he said / she said is bad for for online.  I have read soooooo many posts where one person talks about another and accuses them of being a player or whatever.  And the advice is to stay out of it or do not start it.  I agree with this.

As an academic question. . . what should a person do if they know that the person online is a rapist/pedopile/psycho/murderor/in general bad guy. . . or girl. . .  how should or how would one deal with this?

Just wondering. . . my mind goes in strange places.

TURN THEM INTO THE LOCAL POLICE. Period.

Well, my first question would be: how do you KNOW?  If they are a murderer and back in society after prison, they have done their time and paid their debt to society.  In that case, live and let live.  What if some 18 yr old kid was convicted of 'rape' of a 17 year old neighbor...but it was consensual, and her parents brought the suit?  He is convicted, but he didn't FORCE her.   What if someone thought you were 'bad'?  How would you want them to handle it -online?  Or would you hope they would STFU and leave you alone?   Unless you have the first hand knowledge and the paperwork to back it up, you should leave them alone.

Like I said, it is an academic question. . . I am not facing this issue. . . just wondering where the cut off between getting in the affairs of on-line and real life relationships exist.

If you have proof.... hand the proof to the relevant authoritys... end of story.
Anything less and sorry, no matter how sure you think you are, if it ain't "Proof" then it is in the realm of "He said/She said"

Having said that I would share my 'opinion' with anyone I was friendly with whom might be in contact with the person in order to make them a little safer. But most of those who know me would accept it as 'opinion' only and whilst maybe a little more cautious, still make up their OWN minds.

Tikkiee -> RE: I am curious . . . (6/7/2006 11:47:10 AM)

I would have to agree with the general consensus. IF you know for a FACT, and have undisputable evidence to back it up, then go to the local authorities. Other than that, there is not much that CAN be done without falling into the 'he said/she said' mentality.
