NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Every single menu in New York City could soon be getting a major overhaul if Mayor Michael Bloomberg has his way.

The man behind calorie counts is set to announce a new public health initiative to battle obesity, taking aim at super-sized sugary drinks.

In other words, it may soon be time to say goodbye to those Big Gulps, those Slurpees or even Venti at Starbucks, CBS 2’s Derricke Dennis reported.

Just a beginning.

A beginning towards what? You act as if this is the first time.

You can have your republican mayor back if you want. There isn't a democrat outside manhattan that believes he is anything but a democrat of convenience.

And there's no republican period who believes Bloomberg is a republican.

BTW, the proposed law doesn't cover stores, only bars/restaurants, so NYers can just pop into the local bodega and buy a 2liter, or 20oz soda.

Perhaps the ONE time where the name RINO fits,where as the others were cry-baby blubberer republicans, blubbering that another republican weren`t extreme enough.

Funny, how cons are ok with probing pregnant women vaginally but THIS...........is nanny-statism.......

Dumbest idea ever. Now they will buy 2 smaller drinks and have double the trash on the streets of New York.

Aylee -> RE: Obesity, a cost to healthcare (5/31/2012 7:55:09 PM)

proof beyond a shadow of a doubt that government has not a damn thing more important to do than infringe and interfere with peoples core rights.

~Hello I am gubafia, I love you!

I think it's absolutely great. I like to know what my calorie count is instead of having to do the math on my iPhone application. It would be easier with it already there.

But for those people who are obese or on the verge of, numbers on a board ain't gonna change them. They'll still continue to eat in an unhealthy manner.

Owner59 -> RE: Obesity, a cost to healthcare (5/31/2012 8:18:28 PM)

Sad but true.

You don't? This is the beginnings of government dictating your lifestyle in the food area. It's a very small step in the process of controlling what the government believes is bad for you.

Real0ne -> RE: Obesity, a cost to healthcare (5/31/2012 8:46:59 PM)

This new thing bans drinks over 16 ounces with sugar in them.

littlewonder -> RE: Obesity, a cost to healthcare (5/31/2012 8:47:12 PM)

They already do that and have been for years.

You can't buy unpasteurized dairy
You can't buy certain drugs that have positive results outside the U.S.
There are certain foods you cannot bring into the states
You can't sell a lot of things without an fda approval first
