kit, nope they aren't going to pass with or without a stent. My ureter is too narrow. They actually grew to that size IN the ureter or they wouldn't have been there. The urologist who put the stent in even told me NOT to let the other urologist try to talk me into lithotrypsy.

My appointment today was cancelled (after I was already there). There were no doctors in today anyway, so I am pretty miffed at the nurse even making the appointment. New appointment for June 26th. At that point (whether it is the doctor's plan or not), the discussion about when to remove the stones is going to happen. Luckily, on the 20th I meet with the endocrinologist about my thyroid lump, which my research indicates might be the thing causing the stones to begin with. Just have to wait and see.
As for a doctor you can have a rapport with, I completely agree. The asshole recommended the same thing, but refused to answer my questions. I dismissed him pretty quickly when that happened. I have been lucky that I have been able to find some great doctors, since my primary is also wonderful (not quite as wonderful as the urologist, but great all the same). I will never understand any doctor who feels a patient asking detailed questions is a problem. Besides the reality that everyone should be doing that, when you have multiple health issues (as I do), you tend to get up to speed on the tests, the medications, etc. My primary sits with me and goes over every single test result, we discuss each medication as much as I feel a need to, and he realizes that sometimes he needs to take a holistic approach and treat all my issues even those that aren't necessarily part of the immediate problem (like anxiety and nerves). Even my pharmacists are great and when I thought I would have to move to a different town, was worried about new pharmacists.
Let's hope my luck continues with these clinic doctors and some kind of trust and rapport can be established. Right now, even though I have always had trouble with stents (they are extremely uncomfortable for me), I am starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel for the kidney stones.
