One small additional point to all the other excellent points...go slow in terms of size. I'm not talking about using plugs or anything, just that I wouldn't exactly just jump onto (pun intended) the biggest toy possibly imaginable. I know some people think they'll get extra "sub points" by proving themselves that way, but it sure seems like a recipe for disaster for me. Try to take it easy a bit and see what works for you both as far as size, positions, play etc. Hope you have a blast.

You probably need a longer toy than you think you do. Remember, it all doesn't have to go in, but it does actually have to reach. Girth is another story.

Have a few dongs to select from.

Yep, lube. Water based are not bad per se, they just get absorbed very quickly. Different people need different things as far as that goes. I keep a selection and sometimes combine. Oil based lubes can break down rubber toys over time. Silicone lubes can break down silicone toys over time. Very unlikely it will happen on the first use.

I am very fond of J-Lube for manual play, and it's cheap and will last for a very long time.

We went for the long and thin option mainly cause I didn't fancy the girth, it would be like going for the canes and crops before you had your forts spanking, and a traditional ploughmans on rye was the sandwich for those of you that gave that very imiportant advice

Some very good advice from all thank you. I would add letting your sub control the rate and depth of penetration as being vitally important, oh and don't forget to clean beforehand glad I did
