Karmastic -> My suggestions for news sources (6/9/2012 7:55:04 PM)

Some of the other threads got me thinking about good news sources. this didn't belong in politics, cus it's about me suggesting a good news source, and inviting others to share theirs or comment on mine. i don't watch too many local or U.S news sources since i think they mirror the U.S. government's daily news-feed, and waste time on non-stories like who texted Pres Obama. there's this channel that's re-broadcast on my local PBS station (probably yours too), or you can catch it online: MHz World http://www.mhznetworks.org/schedule/ it re-broadcasts several newscasts from around the world. even though many of them are more or less state TV, or at least, corporate TV, i think it's better because only by watching news from several sources (around the world) can you start to see the spin different factions/sides put on stories. obvious example: Israeli TV calls them "terrorists" regardless of what they're doing, while Al Jazeera calls everyone "fighters", even if they're indiscriminately shelling civilians (you can tell where i stand on that one). but it's more than that, it's what stories they choose to cover. RT TV (Russia Today) is wildly anti-American government, but they will run stories no one else will (muckrakers). most news sources are mouth-pieces for their government, or their regional way of thinking. but to me, putting together the mosaic is what's most interesting. what stories they run, and how they frame them. starting 5:00 PM (PST i think), here's my review of the basic newscasts: (all are in English, meant for English speaking audiences) IBA news - Israeli state TV. Guess what it's about. You're correct. RT news (Russia Today) - tells us all the dirty things that make America "suck". sometimes so over the top stoooopid, so entertaining besides being informative. they call themselves guerrilla journalists - RT TV is more like monkey journalists. sidenote: does anyone want to buy my mint condition copy of "Soviet Life" with Reagan and Gorby on the cover? Not kidding here - one of the stories covers how safe Chernobyl is, about a month before the meltdown. South Asia Newsline: let me rename this "Pakistan sucks TV, brought to you by India". horrid production standards, but what do you expect from in-sourcing it ;) Al Jazeera: surprisingly accurate and informative, EXCEPT for anything having to do with Israel or their various conflicts. fucking bitchen-ass set and generally neutral anchors, with a couple wild exceptions. DW TV (deutsche welle): German corporate TV, fairly neutral, but very EU centric in their POV. i love dem germans ;) France 24 - see DW TV, but with mostly gay men anchors. NHK - similar to DW and France 24, corporate TV, but obviously Asian centric. Very pro-government, fun to watch how they admit government mistakes (oh so regrettable). soooo, i invite you to share your news sources, or comment on mine.
