Dog food and Cat food in the USA is okay for human consumption. Not meant for large consumption but it is safe to ingest. Dog/cat food makers are very aware that most families who have pets, also have childern. And crawling children as some point or another will eat the dog/cat food that in the bowl on the floor. The US companies do testing to verify thier food is safe for human consumption. You might get sick and throw up but it will not harm you. I cannot speak for companies outside of the USA.

Ok, just an aside.. I have an adventuresome palate and have run across some things that sound vile but are actually quite tasty...

Korean Earthworm Soup
Buttermilk Sherbet
Thai Pickled Squid Salad
Caramelized Goat's Milk Cheese Omelets (Gjetost Omelets for those familiar with that Swedish cheese)
Pickled Herring with Salsa on fresh tortillas (Kosher tex-mex anyone?)

I had a dream that lead to fantasy about being forced to eat some food or combinations of food that is discussing and tastes horrible. It was very exciting. I now fanticize about it often.
So what would you suggest as a horrible food combination. I was thinking sardines, beans, coffee grounds, black licorice. Maybe add some vodka to make it more liquid.
I would want the combination to be harmless. Not toxic or infectious. But horrible tasting and feeling in the mouth. Something that would make me gag and make difficult to keep down.

Interested in your ideas.

I think you hit the nail on the head Alanna....

Anything that doesn't taste like Crown Royal is just....well....disgusting.

Start from there.

I second (or third) the vote for Durian. I've never met anyone who says they like it who wasn't lying.

Try me.

Seriously, give me fresh, ripe durian any day. Also, it wouldn't be widely cultivated, grown, and exported from SE Asia if everyone was lying who said they liked it.

I think perhaps it's disliked in the west so much as people haven't had the chance to sample good quality fresh fruit ( or even decent quality frozen fruit ). It ships ripe difficulty, and it's pretty expensive outside its homeland. It's pretty rich, but so are lots of other more common foods, like brie cheese or chocolate mousse.

In most big cities you only have to go to their Chinatown to buy Durian at almost every market and really not that expensive. I've found it in Philly, NYC, Pittsburgh and even in my small city that I lived, Allentown, PA at the Asian market.

I've tried it 3 times and still could not get past the taste, smell or texture.

Cilantro and Lance do NOT mix well.  I can smell it when sitting down in a Mexican restaurant and the salsa is already on the table. BLEAH!  Chipotle's and Qudoba's do not have a cilantro free option.  Guess who doesn't go where.

Ginger in SE Asian cooking - the same.  Ginger - dyed pink - next to sushi / sashimi.  Nope, nope, and no way.

Worst of all, lemon grass.  Local coffee shop had some exotic blend with "Finish of lemon grass."  I thought, "C'mon.  Put your big boy pants on and try it." Spittons were invented for this very scenario, but was there one to be found? <=== Rhetorical question.

So, equal parts of those 3 in the blender.  Touch of vinegar to slurry it down.  I can hardly type it..... thinking about it is too close to.... urp!!!  Now where did those "eat vomit" folks go?  LOL!

Oh! I am so with you on cilantro AND pickled ginger. The cilantro.. I hate that kind of 'cold' sensation you get in your mouth. Ick. And pickled ginger on sushi is icky.

Not a huge fan of 'lemon pepper', mainly because I'm not a huge fan of pepper.

Cilantro for me is "dirty dish water."
Read carefully.  Lemon GRASS.  I'll take cilantro over lemon grass any day.

My Dad used to be quite fond of "head cheese."

Supposedly called that since it's made of the head of the pig.  Not so sure of that, but might be.... LOL!

Hey, when you slaughter a pig, you use everything but the squeal.

I know some pups are made to eat dog food. While most of the dry stuff is safe to eat, the canned stuff I would never touch...if it's a health risk..it's an automatic hard limit.

Ha! It would be something to see you eat an entire durian... The smell alone makes me wanna vomit.

Hello

This is a horrible meal but it was very tasty but for some of you it would be a horrible meal

Muskrat, fried cripsy with collard greens! Squirrel fried again crispy with any type of
vegetable!

These were some of the meals my mother cooked yes it was weird but wow when
your a child and you are hungry you'll be very surprised what you will eat!

Canned rattle snake, chocolate cover bees, ants that was my father ideal of a sweet treat!

No I do not know where my mother got the Muskrat, or the squirrel! I never asked where, why, what, or when
we just ate !
