spinspinsugar -> Self Reflection (6/13/2012 1:28:03 AM)

Bdsm has helped me to reflect on my own actions a lot..
and I realised ..that I could be a bit of a brat at times, my patience levels are awful..
has anyone got any suggestions on things I can do to improve, and stop being so impulsive and impatient at times?

Interesting to see how BDSM can have such Therapeutic Significance
it seems that it has some sort Behavioral Modification Effect on you

FR...

Seriously, with boobs like that it should take you three seconds to find a buff young dominant chap who will gladly put up with the "impatient/impulsive" shit just to have a go on you.

Even more seriously...

You need to want to be patient. I think that some things are really difficult to simply "improve", you need a context and a motivation that causes you to improve.

Or a very strict, protocol oriented dom.

Alas,,, I'm neither buff and young or very protocol oriented <wipes tear>

FR~

Count.
Envision yourself and how ditzy or mouthy you might seem if you speak before thinking. Envision how you WANT to be seen by others. The one who talks first and thinks second, or someone who puts thought into her responses and actions? If the words you are about to spout don't reflect the kind of person you want to be then stop and think about how you should react. Give yourself that ten seconds to evaluate before you respond. Some people may think you're being odd but others might realize you're putting thought into it instead of being reactionary.

Or a very strict, protocol oriented dom.

This... although no Dom can give you self-discipline. That's why they call it self-discipline. A dom who was very strict could give you the framework to address these issues. But in the end, if you don't want to grow then you won't and he'll release you.

By your self, you might try some medidation or any other activity which will slow you down... cause you to relax and reflect on the world a bit.

Out of curiosity, you're 37 years old. Have you found impatience and brattiness to be a success strategy in your life so far? I'm just trying to understand why you're not self-motivated to deal with it. Is it that it's not a real-life problem but just a "kink problem"? Do you hold regular jobs and relationships together just fine but you feel you're not respectful enough whatever you conceive of as a BDSM relationship?

If you were 7, I'd recommend studying martial arts. At 37, I dunno. Maybe meditation?

Deliena -> RE: Self Reflection (6/13/2012 10:26:02 AM)

The first thought I had was meditation, I also thought about how useful a diary/journal might be. Yes even at more mature ages we can realise there are personality aspects we'd like to improve, I don't see that as a bad thing, I see that as owning who you are as a person and wanting to continually improve on being and becoming what you want to be. That isn't a goal that should be sniffed at imo

If your mind is too active for meditation, do yoga first. Yoga was designed to quiet and prepare the mind for meditation.

I've become more patient in the 16 years I've been practicing yoga, but that could be completely unrelated.

meditation, yoga, church, get involved in activities that need patience and time. Sit down and ask yourself why you are that way and once you know, take steps to fix it.
