Bernie Sanders goes off on Senate

Or, if you prefer, the text version

I would say this is about as accurate as it gets...

subrob1967 -> RE: The American People Are Angry (6/27/2012 2:08:52 PM)

Um, Ole Bernie contradicts his rant in a couple of places. At one point he's bitching about how much money the 1% gained in 09... Then he bitches about the Koch brothers wanting to get rid of Obama at any cost... Has anyone told Bernie who the President was, and which party had control of congress in 09 when the 1% was making all this money?

Just another typical socialist rant... Nothing new here.

Save the teachers, invest in wind, solar, and "green" energies, and as usual blame Bush.

Sanders said: "the wealthiest 400 individuals own more wealth than the bottom half of America - 150 million people. Today, the six heirs to the Wal-Mart fortune own more wealth than the bottom 30 percent. Today, the top one percent own 40 percent of all wealth, while the bottom sixty percent owns less than 2 percent. Incredibly, the bottom 40 percent of all Americans own just 0.3 percent of the wealth of the country."
Sanders listed a set of key priorities that includes creating jobs to repair America's crumbling infrastructure, providing health care for all Americans, strengthening Social Security, blocking cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, and making the wealthy and profitable corporations pay their fair share to reduce the deficit.
"

Why is this being reported as news and not as common sense?

Cus its intelligent, factual, honest, and a few good ideas? The exact opposite viewpoint of most conservatives in this country. They would rather the infrastructure to crumbe and break, resulting in money being spent on repairs and replacements across quite a number of fuctions (i.e. canals, highways, bridges, pipelines, etc). More money spent on those things, less money spent else where (like health care, education, police, etc). They dont want to pay taxes yet require the most out of civil and public sectors on a daily basis. Its much like someone that orders food, eats it and leaves without paying the bill. Why should they have to pay for a bridge they use only once in a great while?

Mr. Sanders has some really good ideas and few points. I dont agree with everything he states, but I can understand the reasoning behind the statements. Unlike the Republicans whom really dont care what happens to America as long as the 1% controls everything within five years.

papassion -> RE: The American People Are Angry (6/28/2012 6:45:45 AM)

Hey Libs, repairing the infrastructure will take large construction companies with extensive "know how" and equipment. Far out of the knowledge of the "little guy" construction companies. All these contracts to repair infrastructure will make the 1% even richer! Even if they pay their "fair share!" Seems to me that since Libs are so fixated on the rich 1%, they would try to be a 1%'er instead of crying in their beer. Oh, thats right, the 1%'ers were just lucky.

Speaking of paying their fair share. We had an article in our local paper awhile back by, I think George Will. It said if the 1% paid the tax rate the democrats want, it would generate 1.9 trillion. Even a math retard can subtract 1.9 trillion from 18 trillion national debt and see it won't make a dent.

For the slower people, If you are under 18 feet of water and the Democrats propose to pull you up 1.9 feet from the bottom, You would still be in deep shit! The only way to raise the revenue we need is to tax everybody. That means YOU too. Obama knows this but won't tell you. So go ahead, keep screaming "tax the rich!" Obama gets a good laugh watching you scream that at rallies.

farglebargle -> RE: The American People Are Angry (6/28/2012 6:52:50 AM)

Actually, if we just cut 'defense' spending to reasonable levels, and end all that corporate welfare the additional revenue would service the existing debt just fine.

So, since there isn't anything we need to deploy the army for, we can just send them all home. We need the navy, and some marines. They have their own air support, so we don't need the airforce anymore for anything, so that's a whole lot of money saved, too.

So, we cut the army to the bare bones needed to keep the structure able to be reconstituted after we have a draft, we eliminate the air-force, and then we can see what we can cut going forward. I expect the SEAL-subs and drones will make aircraft carriers redundant, so going forward there's a lot of money we can save there, too...

So, FIRST we cut spending. THEN we reassess revenue needs. Call your congressman and tell him that, and that they need to cut what GE and Westinghouse are taking off the top FIRST before firing teachers and firemen...

mnottertail -> RE: The American People Are Angry (6/28/2012 6:53:14 AM)

Not so, not one whit, craven cretinism.   Ever hear of Northern Improvement?  They build interstates.  Ever hear of Korby Construction?  they build bridges all over the US, both employ less than 200 people. Mark Sand and Gravel?   Global Specialty Contractors?

My! Such financial acumen. No wonder you are a Right winger....

You make a 10 year plan. And you pay the National Debt off in annual installments. If taxing the rich raises $1.9 trillion per annum, then after 10 years you will be pretty close to zero debt after allowing for interest and natural growth in tax revenue. No cuts to medicaid or teachers or other services that people need. Make some inroads into the bloated defence budget and you could even end up with some cash in the bank.

See it's easy. Even I can do that. I guess even Homer Simpson could have worked that one out too. BTW isn't the real figure something in the 14-15 trillion range? Which would make the whole exercise even easier.

Funny too, that conservatives ignore that they voted for the folks that allowed the US Debt to go from a pookie $2.2 Trillion in 2000 to $11.5 Trillion in 2008. So much for the 'fiscal conservatives' there, eh? Yeah, mathematics does seem to be a problem with conservatives. So is understanding education, health care, science, philosophy, legal matters, the US Constitution, and many other 'higher level' things. But, they are limited to a 6th grade educationl can you blame them? YES!

Yes, I guess the right wingers have never heard of a house mortage either. Be in ten or thirty years. That concept has been around for decades....

And it's also funny that progressives ignore the little fact that the Dems had control over the check writing for a period of that time, and could have stopped the war before it started by just voting NO... Poor progressives, can't even get their own Caucasus under control.

Really? The Democrats controlled Congress in 2003? The House and Senate? I'm sure you got some....EVIDENCE....and....FACTS....to support that arguement of yours, right?

Does he ever?

papassion -> RE: The American People Are Angry (6/28/2012 11:39:14 AM)

In your 10 year plan to reduce the national debt. You assume payments keep comming in and expenses stay the same. Have you read what medicare was projected to cost and what it actually cost? Same for just about every government dream. We've had republicans and democrats running the government and the debt keeps going UP.

When you see a pattern for a long period of time, you can make a fairly accurate assumption. I'd be willing to bet that the sun is going to rise in the East tomorrow. Any doubters?

mnottertail -> RE: The American People Are Angry (6/28/2012 11:39:59 AM)

He had some pretty credible citations on an epic failure of a medicare opt out by republicans in his home state, but other than that............(did you see it?  It was some real dogshit they had going on there).

Moonhead -> RE: The American People Are Angry (6/28/2012 11:41:29 AM)

So, we need to cut the shit out of our defense budget, make some prudent cuts in other budget items, do some reforming, and raise taxes.

Real americans have been saying that forever since St. Wrinklemeat took us on the current bobsled ride to hell.

papassion -> RE: The American People Are Angry (6/28/2012 12:22:05 PM)

Lets cut the military to barebones? The military is basically an international POLICE force. Lets try an experiment to see if thats a good idea. We'll cut barebones the police forces in Chicago, New York and all larger cities. If it works out, we can be confident that cutting the International Police will be a good idea!

Every "enlightened" people who beat their swords into plowshares ended up plowing (slaves) for the people that did not. Yeah, I know, the Bible says the meek shall inherit the earth. Maybe in another life.
