Sanity -> AP: Weather is now climate! (7/3/2012 7:10:30 AM)

From the "Aint that convenient" dept:

In a stunning reversal, weather is now officially climate

This US summer is 'what global warming looks like' (AP)

(Stay tuned if you dont get the joke). [;)]

The joke is you have no comprehension, they made explicit disclaimers (several times) that weather is not climate.

subrob1967 -> RE: AP: Weather is now climate! (7/3/2012 7:52:02 AM)

Really? Where are the disclaimers? All i see are a bunch of scientists saying that this is what "global warming looks like".

OttersSwim -> RE: AP: Weather is now climate! (7/3/2012 7:59:32 AM)

Terminology and political spin aside...

Nearly 7 billion people

Over 1 billion automobiles

Here in Colorado, over the past 5 years, the weather has been more like living in New Mexico. Five very mild winters. We normally cannot plant until May 10th. This year on May 1st, I was harvesting and eating the first spinach out of my garden. I planted in March!

I grew up in this state. I know and have experienced it's weather for more than 2/3rds of my life.

This ain't just a warming spell...

You cant fuckin read either, huh?

If you want a glimpse of some of the worst of global warming, scientists suggest taking a look at U.S. weather in recent weeks.

These are the kinds of extremes climate scientists have predicted will come with climate change, although it's far too early to say that is the cause

Scientifically linking individual weather events to climate change takes intensive study, complicated mathematics, computer models and lots of time. Sometimes it isn't caused by global warming.

Weather is always variable; freak things happen.
And this weather has been local. Europe, Asia and Africa aren't having similar disasters now, although they've had their own extreme events in recent years.

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warned of "unprecedented extreme weather and climate events."

"What we're seeing really is a window into what global warming really looks like,"

Such patterns haven't happened only in the past week or two. The spring and winter in the U.S. were the warmest on record and among the least snowy, setting the stage for the weather extremes to come, scientists say.
Since Jan. 1, the United States has set more than 40,000 hot temperature records, but fewer than 6,000 cold temperature records, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric

Show me the statement where they said weather is now climate.

Note paragraph excerpts two and three.....

Nowhere does it say what sanity claims, cuz we all know he has no comprehension, and you have no understanding, thats why you are confused.

They did not say that weather is now climate....read the article. s-l-o-w-l-y....

There is one little thing I've noticed with these "new records" that are being set all over the place. How many of the weather monitoring stations are new, with no real history to compare against? A record high at John Wayne airport, for instance (yes, there is such a place - Ron would love it, I'm sure), means that it's the hottest it has been in the whole 10 odd years they have been taking temperatures there. Wow. That's significant, huh?

Meanwhile, up the road at Bob Hope airport, the 1955 record is still the champ.

mnottertail -> RE: AP: Weather is now climate! (7/3/2012 8:35:41 AM)

I have been thru John Wayne airport many times, and they always had weather station there.  So in their 10 years?  They been there way longer than that.

If his bronze statue in that lobby is lifesize, he was a big old fuckin boy.

And I am sure Denver has been collecting data for longer than the last couple years as has Minnesota and the east coast.

Hillwilliam -> RE: AP: Weather is now climate! (7/3/2012 9:01:33 AM)

I asked my dad (an avowed global warming denier) yesterday if he had ever seen 100 degrees in this part of the country (90 is very rare here and generally in august). He said no. We had 3 straight days of 100+ last week and it was just June.
our growing season is about 30-40 days longer here as well.

To answer Sanity in your first statement. Weather is part of climate. It's like a tree is part of the forest. if one tree dies, the forest continues. If several hundred die, you might want to worry.

We have them here too in the last couple of decades. Warm winters allow them to flourish.

Mother nature is a bitch. Last winter Europe experienced one of the worst winters in memory. Ours was relatively benign. So far this summer Europe is not experiencing anything like what we are. Are they farming in Greenland again yet?

Strangely enough, one worst case scenario of warming has Northern Europe plunging into a deep freeze as melt water from the Greenland ice cap would slow or shut down the North Atlantic Gyre. That may be one reason Europeans seem to be more alarmed about climate change. They have a lot more to lose than we do.

Every airport, with a manned tower at least, has a weather station. Pilots kind of need the exact conditions on the ground to safely take off and land.

Didn't Europe just have one of the snowyest and most brutal winters on record ? I guess global warming is only in the US.

mnottertail -> RE: AP: Weather is now climate! (7/3/2012 12:29:50 PM)

What does that have to do with climate change?

Lucylastic -> RE: AP: Weather is now climate! (7/3/2012 1:13:07 PM)

We have had three record breaking temps this year so far.
Just more attempts to make silk purses out of shit
the arrogance is expected
