Absolutely correct, in my situation, too. From the very start, it was made absolutely clear to me that I am to withhold nothing from him. It is not for me to decide what to tell him and what not, when it comes to my emotions, particularly those that are negative. If he does not know what is wrong, he can not correct the problem. I am his "early warning indicator." (His words).
Learning how to express such sentiment appropriately was also required. Having accomplished that, it is amazing how quickly and easily those nagging thoughts in my mind can be resolved. And when those big ticket items come up and I voice my concerns accordingly, they are not only resolved, but I end up feeling so grateful for being heard.
