See, the thing is that underneath it all, it's still just a relationship...and folks don't stay in em, well healthy folks at least, unless they are getting something out of it. Now it may be something as simple as the other person's company (I keep having a vision of that Friends episode where Ross made up a pro/con list of Rachel and the asian chick and Rachel found it...and there were many many pros for the asian chick and only one con-"she's not Rachel"... which outweighed all the other items on the list) but folks keep others in their lives because there is a payoff. Think about friends you've dropped in the past and why.
