I believe, Puppet, that you are seeing difference in opinions to be more than they are in reality. I have butted heads with a few people here and I don't feel attacked and need to run home to my mom. You take the good, you take the bad, you take em both ... and oh hell, its the facts of life (not just on a message board)

You sitting back and playing mother superior just makes you look like a twat. (notice I didn't say you were.. just that you are making yourself look like one)

Kinda Curious,
it appears several people enjoy a good debate... I have a question then.

What are you hear for?
So many are quick to call out and attempt at humiliation and sharp tongue responses...
hmmmm I am curious, why?

Does anyone take into consideration the brand new Dom/sub who may be looking for direction?

Open wide and let it go... waiting for the debate to begin...
(hold up let me get my popcorn!)

My general rules for deciding to post are as follows:
Is it true to the best of my knowledge?
Do I feel I have something to offer to the thread?
Is it kind?

I can get snarky.
Some people here do find that rarity amusing and I am rarely mean.

I always try to take people's experience level into consideration.
(Although if you are using your personal experience here as a reason for posting this, I don't see someone who has been with her Dom for 5 yrs to be new, unless the D/s is a new component... but you did not indicate that. )

Oh and I tend to be a bit literal.

Completely agreed. You and I butted heads on a thread not too long ago. One subject. Big deal.

Two things (for Me) are always constant in this joint......

At one time or another, we will agree on some subject.

At another time, we will disagree on something else.

If that fails, the truth shall set you free, but it will probably piss you off first.

When you come to a forum you make a choice about how you want to conduct yourself, you can get drawn into personal arguments if you like, you can avoid them totally. One thing you do need to accept is that they happen people do have different motivations for posting. There is such a complex mixture of people who use sites like these, from all walks of life with very different opinion, debate is healthy.

I personally avoid grudges as much as I can and think I can count on one hand the number of times I have actually 'fallen out' with someone online so anyone who complains they are constantly getting picked on I think need to look at they way that they post themselves. Some people do court it.

I post when I have an opinion, I do censor what I say to avoid offence because I am not a particularly mean person but I can understand that for some it is very cathartic to get it all out.

What happened to your apology here

I would like to make a public apology for my rude introduction. I was feeling desperate for feedback. I would like to thank those of you that replied to my post in the general forum.

for this: http://www.collarchat.com/m_4174573/mpage_1/tm.htm ?

This is what I was wondering too.
Gotta love the passive aggressive attempts at winding people up. It's also amusing to see here that the OP seems to think that people posting on a message board are all supposed to aspire to want to be teachers....wtf? It's a place to communicate, that's about as noble as it gets. Why do we all have to aspire to a lofty goal?

I've been wondering about the OP's strange stilted way of communicating, it just seemed off. Now I have a clearer picture of what's been going on behind the scenes.

You join a new message board and within two days you are making rude and bizarre attacks on well-established posters. Here's the thing - the people you are criticizing have been around for a while, they are known and liked here. You can't expect to come in and after two days change the way people think and act. Did you expect us all to say 'That's true, Oside/LadyPact/whoever IS a bit of an ass now that you say it?' No. Because we already like them and value what they have to say. They have proven themselves as decent posters long before you or I came along. You can come and play with the big kids if you like, but starting out with personal attacks is only going to make you enemies. Trying to get people worked up is called trolling. Idiots do that. Don't be an idiot.

So your first thread didn't go the way you want it to. You still got some good advice and your second thread people came in and congratulated you. If you'd spent any time reading the forums before you started posting you might have had an idea what it's like round here. You put your problems out for public examination, and yes, people will tell you exactly what they think, even if it's not nice.

I wonder are people this clueless in person? Can you imagine joining a social club and not spending any time observing the culture and etiquette? Or would you just go right in and start calling people names and then wonder why no one wants to be your friend?

PS. Oside and LadyP - sorry for using you as examples, you were the first names that came to mind.

Using FR.

As usual, I love Miss Goody's post (I'm so glad she's a keeper!).

I'm here for the entertainment value, for the fun and humor, to discuss and advise if possible, and to learn what and where I can.

I *LOVE* to debate.

But, I don't remember responding to the OP's threads (sorry, I'm running on one cuppa and trying to search now would be dangerous to my brain cells).

The OP struck me as a clueless newbie not worth my most excellent (and humble, never forget humble) debate skills.

I agree with Janah, those that approach the forum with good communication skills do well here, most especially if they have done their homework in term of lucking on the forum for awhile and seeing how things work.

You know, it's fine being new, we all were once, and I *DO* try and take that into consideration (not always successfully). But newbies who respond with instant snark b/c a thread isn't immediately pandering to their needs, sorry, I have little time for you.

FR

I've gone through three threads here (plus I've been away from the boards or lurking) and this thread in particular gives me a strange feeling..

It's the same feeling I get whenever I'm in a room full of Americans.. I hear the words, I'm aware of them, I understand them all, individually, but there's also that lingering doubt that I don't quite understand the entire context or why all the words have been used as they have.

I think two things here. Let's be banal first, people are people.

But also what you have to bear in mind that no matter whether you are starting a thread or responding to a thread you are posting to an audience of different people. Here is no different to anywhere else where there is an audience, whether it be music, theatre (erm sorry, theater), a business seminar, the only given is that there's no guarantee how the audience will respond to your words.

It comes back to that point about people being people. Once you've written what you want to share and hit that button it's there, it's posted, it stands. It's published and goes out to the audience.

Starting another thread because you've got the hump with people over how they responded it's a bit like having the hump with any community of people or even society in general (and please bear in mind that there's quite a few people in secure institutions or subject to care in the community because they have issues with 'people in society').

It's this way because of culture, culture is the collective, and you will find that these boards - just like any other on the Internet - have their own culture.

There's nothing wrong in being new here. We were all new here once, and I'm sure each of us can remember our own bloopers and outtakes, but rather than fight the culture here wouldn't it be best to try and work with it?

I must say, that after reading all the personal attacks the op has thrown out, that I am not surprised that her relationship is so rocky. Her tendency to attack everyone willy nilly must be her personal style and I can't blame her partner for not finding this exhausting and lowering his libido.

No worries about using Me as an example. I'm probably one of the people who pissed the OP off.

There's a fair percentage of threads around here that boil down to the same answer: TALK TO THE PERSON THAT YOU ARE SHARING YOUR LIFE WITH! People don't want to hear that. Doesn't make it any less true.

If that failed and your problem still exists, people generally get a whole different reception to their issue. If you haven't even tried, there's only so many versions of COMMUNICATE that we can offer.

you know Janah X... and sometimes people enjoy an opportunity to vent ... i watched my daughter yesterday hike almost 2 miles (we are working hard to get her in shape) all from her getting angry... anger and frustration and pissing people off can open them up to letting out the aggravation they may be holding in cahnneling their energy into a hike... just saying. i may stirrin up shit but when i read back i see true colors I see what people really think, those who do not care to be teachers... nothing wrong with it either way, those that trully do not care what others think and they really are not led by ego alone and leave before they begin... those that say they don't care but keep posting. I am just watching all of you...

Sounds a bit paranoid to me.

If you can indeed see "true colors" and what people really think on a message board, then you are quite discerning.

I would advise you, unless this is a joke, to just lower your expectation level of online interaction and try to go with the flow.

You have no control over how others behave, only the way you react to them.

'Sall good. I am not offended, I just thought you were calling me out, and I wanted to let you know that it's fine to just call me out on my bullshit, if you see it that way. I am not afraid to be wrong, or disagreed with.

Also, I agree with the "edge being in the moment", and THAT is how it's possible to get in over your head.
