DoraExplorer -> Owwww my head ! (6/9/2006 3:49:33 PM)

Hi all,

I've played several times with a wonderful person, we've both enjoyed it immensely, everything's gone well and we've parted happy and laughing and planning our next meeting.

And every time, about an hour afterwards, I've got this horrible horrible headache.  I've never suffered from migraine, and from what I read about them this isn't one, but I do need to lay down for a while because I can't do anything else; it lasts for a couple of hours and then abates.

Woss all that about then?

Cheers in advance.

Often the incredible energy we share and the degrees of intensity shared is beyond most other levels in life. It is NOT at all unusual to find some form of "drop" happening to dominant or submissive partners at a time when the intensity is past. This can be moments or hours or days later for different people.
"Drop" can be a down time, a low energy time, a slight depression, or a physical upset like your headache.
Often those who feel "drop" most are those who truly best get into the shared intensity. Hopefully the partner has similar levels of intensity.
"Sub-drop" or dom-drop" seem the same to me.

Could be that, could be a lot of things.  Could be drop in blood pressure.  If you're so wonderfully and ecstatically excited during these fantastic playdates, your BP may be elevated, and then will drop when you come down.  Could also be the aftereffects of the endorphins going away... I wouldn't be terribly worried.  See if you can find a correlation between an activity you do every time you have a session where a headache occurs afterwards.  HTH.

Make sure you're well fed and hydrated before you start to scene, and get some juice in you after the scene.

All that, BBRn state are possibilities for the aftereffects that you're undergoing. I would only add that we sometimes forget the huge quanities of hormonal infusions and adrenaline that are contained in the endorphin cocktails.
Take, BBRn's advice and journal your conditions before, during and after a session. If the headaches continue, I'd suggest that you find a kink-friendly professional that has a clue about WIITWD, its effects, etc for an evaluation. I learned some decades ago to never be dismissive about headaches.

Thanks guys.  I never thought to associate it with "drop", good thinking.  Will watch and see if it happens every time/only when we do x or y etc.

Cheers x

Didn't have time to reast past the OP; it's probably what a lot of us experience, women especially.  I don't recall what I'd read of the physiological cause(s), but know that (most likely) there's nothing to worry about and it's very, very common, especially after sex where you've reached more than one orgasm.

I've found this to be true, I'll get a massive, sometimes nearly blinding headache after fantastic sex with many orgasms, yet if I wasn't in the mood/distracted and had none, or maybe just one, I have no headache...frustrated, sure, but no headache [8|] lol

If you only experience this after sex, especially if you find you're often very sexually satisfied, then no need to worry.  If you randomly have these headaches and it's not sync-ing up with sexual activity...see your doctor just to rule out anything that needs attention.

Does anyone else think the answer to this, and most questions in this area, is to see a qualified physician?

Not specific enough?  ... Was what a friend who's been a nurse for 10+ years told me [8|]

Well, as the reason could be a multitude of things, I will add another option. Perhaps its muscular? Example..levatus scapular can cause headaches.

Yes.

A lot of people get exercise induced headaches...or headaches that seem to have their root in physical activity. It really IS important to have your headaches diagnosed by a doctor. It may be nothing at all or it may be a symptom of a deeper problem. Seeing a doctor will tell you what side of that equation you're on.

It does appear to be a physiological response. I have created the following hypothesis to explain it. Firstly, it is a fact that headaches are often caused by  a widening of the bloodvessels in or on the brain. Apparently in your case this is not caused by the bloodvessels themselves relaxing and widening, but because they are forced to widen by a large amount of blood that is forced into them. This blood must be coming from another compartment where it is forced out about one hour after your session. I expect this other compartment to be the skin and that during your session the bloodvessels in your skin become enlarged, fill with blood en colour your skin red. When the blood vessels in your skin recuperate about one hour after your session, they tighten up and force the blood they contain back into the body. Apparently, the bloodvessels in the body during the session are forced to tighten up to push their blood into the skin, but they take much longer to revert to normal conditions. Therefore, there is no room in the bloodvessels of the body for the blood returning from the skin one hour after the session. This blood has nowhere else to go but into the bloodvessels of the brain, causing the headache.

Hypothetically, the bloodvessels in the bodycore will be stimulated to widen when you consume something cold, thus drawing warm blood into them to negate the effect of the cold. So you may try to consume some icecream half an hour after your session and before and during your headache. In theory it should make a difference.
