Sinergy, who was once a stalwart of our political threads (and whom I miss), used to say of unions, "United we bargain. Divided we beg." I don't know if that was his own coinage, but I've always rather liked it.

I've been thinking a lot lately about how the 1912 election (Roosevelt-Taft-Wilson) turned on who could be most progressive, while now we seem to compete to see who can be most regressive.

Back 1884, Grover Cleveland's supporters said, "We love him for the enemies he has made."

Those words came to mind as I read this thread and thought of anti-union voices in the larger culture. Given some of the folks unions agitate, I'm guessing they've done some important work.
