I"m very experienced with clay having worked with it as an artist extensively and it is a terrible idea for a dildo.
-Since you can mold it, that means it is fairly soft and it could, probably would break off inside.
-It certainly will not hold it's shape if is at all still malleable.
-It is a substance that absorbs a lot of water, your vagina or anus will become dry as it sucks the moisture out of it.
-If you wet it or lubricate it first then it becomes more slippery and will coat your insides as it leaves behind a layer of clay.
-Yes, clay can contain toxic materials, which is why we fire it so none is ingested. You're basically ingesting clay and its possible toxic substances if you put it unfired inside a mucous membrane. When you make vessels to hold food you have to buy the right type without toxic substances.
-As it dries it will crack and fissure. Nice way to catch tender areas and get tons of germs in the cracks. The porous outside is also a germ magnet.
Fired clay which would then be ceramic would be better, but has it's own set of problems.
-If you don't glaze it it will be rough to the touch, like a fine grade sandpaper, and a breeding ground for germs.
-Not glazing it will mean the surface is liable to still leave behind a fine dusting of clay that wears off inside your body leading to the drying out effect again and possible toxic materials exposure.
-Not glazing means it is absorbent and will dry you out.
-Glazing it is not a perfect process, it forms thinner, thicker, uneven surfaces at times with lumps and sometimes sharp little projections.
Out of everything a glazed clay dildo would be the best as it would be the smoothest, and non-absorbent. You'd have to use food grade clay and glaze. At a dildo thickness, you'd probably have to fire it hollow though so it didn't explode in the kiln, and I'm not sure I'd completely trust the strength of the final product- depended on the thickness of the walls. In a bowl or cup you can make a thick wall, in a penis diameter to make sure you had the hollow, the walls would have to be thinner. Who'd want to be going to town with the thing and have it shatter?
