I mentioned UK on the topic title because we've got the NHS here. I'm not sure how relevant that is, but I hope it is :)

How do I go about getting tested (this is a pre-emptive thing rather than reactive, so there's no rush)? I would prefer not to go to my local GP as I live in a village and while "everyone knows everyone" isn't strictly the case, it's relevant enough that it's a concern to me.

Go to a clinic nearby in a bigger city, simple as that, check for a GUM clinic or a hospital with a GUM department that is in a bigger city not too far away from you.

quote:

You can get free, confidential advice and treatment from your GP or from specialist clinics in your area (even if you're under 16). Most hospitals have special clinics called genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinics that give tests and treatment for STIs. There are also lots of places that are set up especially for young people.

Most STIs can be treated easily so don't be scared of having a test and getting a positive result.

Find sexual health services near you.

Hi Mike, Once you have found out where your local GUM clinic is, check what time its open and if you need to make an appointment. Some GUM clinics don't even require your real name.
A health care professional will want to take your sexual history and will ask you some pertinent questions that could prove embarrassing. If you want an HIV test then I suggest you answer the questions so that you come out with a high risk score, regardless of weather its true or not.
