I been thinking about this, and what I could do and whatnot.....

Are  you itching inside your mouth and on your tongue?  Cuz I got somethin for that.

I am happy to hear you are doing so well Luci. There are a lot of women who want this surgey, but once they learn all that it entails, they change their mind.

Make sure thst bra fits comfortably. I assume you are wearing it 24/7. It is encouraging that you are experience sensation in your nipples, as many times with breat reduction there is actually a loss of sensation.

When you take your pain meds and become itchy, do you also experience nasal congestion? If so, it is even more important to find an alternative.

Keep working on that deep breathing and coughing. It could be the only thing between you and a case of pneumonia. If you are having trouble with the coughing, here is a tip. Grab that towel of kitkats, take a deep breath and release it through your mouth. As you near the end of the breath, give a forceful "huff" at the end. It is much less jarring as a regular "koff", but just as effective.

Rest as much as you can, and make sure you are eating high protein meals to help with healing.

We are all lookong forward to pictures of the new you...........congratulation!

I think I'll stick with the benadryl this week :P

LOL I did almost change my mind...many times over. Including the morning I went for the proceedure. Thankfully Mr is my rock and encouraged me to just keeo moving forward. Even though I am in pain and a little fucked up right now, even if things don't settle into a position I am completely happy with...I already look much better than I did and mentally I feel better too.
Yes this bra is too tight. I need to have Mr wash the other one tonight when he gets home because I do have to wear one 24/7 for a few weeks and I don't have anything else big enough that doesn't have underwire and those are a no no.. The stitches look to be healing pretty well too.

I'm not getting any extra congestion when I medicate, but after I eat I usually need to cough up some phlem. I am doing the deep breath blow hard thing rather than coughing, and I am also leaning forward against the back of the couch or whatevers closest so my belly doesn't move when I cough. I am unable to put enough pressure on my tummy with a pillow so I actually have to lean into something, but it's working out Ok.
We are also keeping the house pretty cool and low humidity to help so I won't get sick. Since I've felt like a furnace anyway it works out ;) I've also cut my smoking WAY the hell down so I'm not aggrivating my lungs as much. I was going to use a patch to curb the cravings but the Dr said thats worse than smoking actual cigarettes because the constant dose of niccotine keeps the little capilaries closed rather than having them close for a few minutes while I smoke. So, I went from 1 pack a day down to like 5 or 6 a day and yes I'm VERY irratable.

I feel a lot less tired today and have been wanting to move around more, but I'm not supposed to yet so it's a little frustrating. I got a good rest last night because I found my sleeping pills and took one so I could sleep. I think I made it 5 hours or something before I had to get up and pee.

Now I just need to figure out how to wash my hair without killing myself LOL and I'll be a seriously happy girl!

Do you have a spray house attached to your shower or sink? I found that until I could take a shower, the spray hose came in handy to at least wash my hair. The first week though you will probably need your Mr. to help you.

I have both a shower massager as well a a shower shot...I SHOULD be able to take care of both ends LOL. Problem is, I can't figure out a comfortable enough position to get into so He can wash my hair and I won't get my whole traveing works wet. I'm not sposed to take off the pressure garment <at all> until I think the drains come out except to readjust it if it bunches.
I'll find out Friday at my post op if I can get nakid or not LOL

Speedy Recovery! :)

hausboy -> RE: I'm Home. Surgery update. LONG. (8/15/2012 7:32:40 PM)

Hey Luci
Glad you're doing well! Great news about your nipples--bonus!!

After my chest surgery, I had a lot of issues with itching--and although I had a different type of surgery--I had crazy issues with an itch feeling like it was on one specific spot...but because of nerve issues, the place I had to scratch was someone else on my chest. So even if the itch was on my left pec, I would have to gently scratch all over my chest until I "found" the itch-- once, the place I had to scratch was on the opposite side of my chest.

It took about a year for my chest to "settle"--and about two years before the final result was complete. My doctor told me that the result I saw in my chest would change a bit month by month--I didn't believe him but he was totally right.

Hope you continue to have a good recovery and are happy with your results!

Lucifyre -> RE: I'm Home. Surgery update. LONG. (8/16/2012 6:26:24 AM)

The swelling is horrible today. Everything is all puffy. My skin is tight everywhere and feel stretched to the max. And I feel very bloated from the inside too. I hope I dont tear anything.
I have my post op tomorrow so I'm looking forward to that since 3 of the 4 drains have made no fluid collection in 2 cleanings. I hope he pulls at least those out. The 4th one however the fluid seems to be going up every time I check it so that's got me a little worried. I'm hoping I can schedule the first couple of lymphatic massages for next week. Since I havne't been moving the surgery sites around at all, I'm worried that everything is just stuck. My boobs are pushed kind of to the sides and feel like rocks.

I got a FULL nights sleep last night finally. My head feels a little less foggy this morning but the downside is all the pain meds have worn off. Getting up to pee this morning was a very slow gentile process LOL.
Mr says he is going to wash my hair for me today. I think I'm gonna cut arm and head holes in a garbage bag and put that over my back and chest so I don't get all this bandaging wet. I can sit on the edge of the bathtob while He leans over me or something. It's going to feel SOOOOO good!

Hope the Dr takes off some of this bandaging. I changed the gauze over my tummy scar yesterday, a couple places look pretty bruised (like angry purplish bruises) but most of it looks clean and ok. Swelling needs to hurry up and go the fuck away, it's uncomfortable.

Why don't you go to one of those cheap haircut places and let them wash your hair, Luci? I will always bless Silvana, the wonderful lady at Grosse Pointe Coiffures who french braided my hair after my first reconstruction.... and the nurse in the hospital who washed my hair in bed with some wacky contraption that managed to not soak my neck incision...

Honestly, getting my hair washed was the greatest pleasure imaginable!!

Ok, THIS is why I post every little whine I have here in this thread...because you people are brilliant!
LadyHib that is a fantastic idea! I can have Mr drive me over to Supercuts or something and get my head scrubbed with very little hassle...for probably less than 20 bucks!
Have an hour before I can wake Him up but that's still plenty of time for Him to take me for a wash. Maybe I can get them to do my face and neck too. I can almost feel the warm water on my head now...gg it's gonna feel SOOO good!

Awesome!
<3's me some LadyHib today! :)

Lucifyre

p.s. think I can get them to scrub my no no bits too? <giggle>
was worth a shot huh? :P

LadyHibiscus -> RE: I'm Home. Surgery update. LONG. (8/16/2012 7:24:42 AM)

Wellll... I am sure the Mister will help you with the nono bits!! (he had BETTER!!)

I am a surgical veteran, both being operated on and taking care of recovering folks... I am FULL OF WISDOM as far as these things go!!

If you get them to braid up your hair, then it won't get all messed up and you can leave it for several days! [:D]

Though "doing well" is subjective hehe. TBH I can't really tell how I'm doing and it's varying from minute to minute too.

Next week will be SO much better!

Are you still supposed to be on the 3 hours down, 10 minutes up, or are you being naughty? [;)]

Best wishes and keep us posted!

It's kind of funny...yesterday I forced myself to rest and stay in the "rules" I took my pain meds a little more often than I was supposed to (yes I was careful and yes I did it intentionally) and that helped me to stay sleepy enough to just want to res. all dayt.
I got up a few times for a few minutes at a time, but I made sure not to over do it. Then with the sleeping pill last night, I got a great full night sleep and this morning when I woke up even though I was a little tender with no pain meds left in my system I felt like I had a great energy level.
Mr and I took that opportuity to get me bathed and hair washed etc. OMG that was just...lovely!
SO yes, the short answer is, I am being a good girl.
This afternoon I am pretty sleepy so I will be napping pretty soon here...gonna go pee first so I can settle in and not wake up to the bladder alarm LOL. I don't think I will need to mess with my medication this evening, I am not feeling as anxious and restless as I was before. Just kind of...mello.

Oh, and Mr got a couple more pictures this morning after my shower. My boobs are still WAY too big and I can't see it all being swelling ;( At this point it's looking like I am going to go in and have more tissue taken out in 6-8 months hopefully he can just do it with Lipo and not remove actual tissue. No, I'm not prejudging, I promise LOL

Lucifyre -> RE: I'm Home. Surgery update. LONG. (8/16/2012 3:29:28 PM)

can't wait to get rid of these fucking drains so I can get me a couple of proper waist training corsets to help shape me nicely.

blah swelling sucks.

Lucifyre -> RE: I'm Home. Surgery update. LONG. (8/17/2012 4:52:28 PM)

I look 8 months pregnant and I feel like I am going to pop.

I had my post op appt today, the Dr is VERY pleased wiht my progress, he says everything looks better than expected, including all this damned swelling...which sucked hard but is perfectly normal. All of my cuts are in great shape, good color, smooth, not too badly bruised.
He took out 3 of the 4 drains today YAY! The right tummy one is still producing a lot of fluid, funny thing is, that's the one that was bothering me the least. The 2 breast ones were sore as all hell because he put them right under my arms and swollen breasts plus drain entry point = FUCKING OWIE every time I moved because they'd been bumped, pulled on, wiggled and shifted almost constantly. Same thing with the left tummy one, entry point in a bad spot and just hurt like a royal BITCH. Next appt is Monday for the last drain to come out.
He gave me some meds for the swelling so by the end of next week I should <start> to see it go down a little bit, but he said it's going to be at least 4 weeks before I am comfortable again *uugh*
He did give me permission however to buy both a corset to wear in place of the garment as well as a push FORWARD bra (to ge them the fuck out of my armpits) He said he doesn't know if either will work because he hasn't ever had anyone ask, but they'll serve the same purpose as the hospital garments so he didn't see any harm in it and it was worth a try if it would make me happy :) The restrictions are no underwire in the bra and not too drastic of a waist training corset, the idea is pressure, not total distortion. I can live with that.
Shopping tomorrow!! WOOT!

I managed to overdo it today. Mr and I stopped at the grocery store to drop of my new prescriptions and I wandered off like an idiot to go grab a couple of cans of soup and some fruit while He was at the pharmacy.
When we got home I was too hungry to wait for Him, so I made my own lunch...after all this I forgot to medicate.
I had woken up at 6 this morning, so I wasn't well rested to begin with, by the time I got into my chair around 2:30 this afternoon I was completely wiped out, cranky headache and in pain. I laid down, got settled, crapped out for a couple hours (still forgetting meds) When I woke up I was extremely overheated and in horrible shape. Mr had gone to work already..I vaguely remember Him kissing my goodbye. I got up to go find the thermometer because I was just hot flashing like crazy and thought I had a temp...couldn't find it.
Yes, yes, I did...I got my ass in the truck and drove myself back to the store to buy a thermometer. I was a bad girl, for a good reason...my reasoning was, I had no ride and couldn't call Mr home from work but if I had a temp that could mean infection so it would mean trip to the ER...if I ignored it it could very seriously fuck me up. If I was fine, then no harm done, I just drove before I was supposed to. I took my temp in the parking lot of the drugstore..if I needed to go to the ER I saw no sense in driving home first right?
Temp was normal, I'm paranoid and retarded.

Speaking of no meds..I still haven't taken them and now I'm hungry!
That's my update for today...scold away but don't tell Mr!! LOL

Lucifyre

*who is probably already making the doctor crazy*
